All Silver Peak appliances store a configuration file per version. When you upgrade, the contents of the configuration are copied into a new file, for that new version. There are three downgrade scenarios possible:
1. Downgrade to a version that was previously running and no factory reset has been performed
2. Downgrade to a version that was previously running but a factory reset has been performed since upgrading from that version
3. Downgrade to a version that was never running before (eg you receive a new appliance from Silver Peak and wish to downgrade it from its shipped version)
Scenario 1 will succeed without any special requirements. However, please note that this will cause the appliance to reload the configuration file that was running at the point of the original upgrade. You may find the configuration is out of date and possibly invalid (IP addresses may have changed since, for example)
Scenario 2 and 3 are essentially the same. No configuration file exists for the version you wish to downgrade to. By default, the appliance will detect this on reboot and, revert to the version of code you are attempting to downgrade from. This is a fail-safe to ensure your appliance remains reachable. If you wish to bypass this safety feature, you can follow the steps below:
CAUTION:
Because this procedure resets all configurations - including mgmt0's IP settings - you may lose connectivity to the appliance. Before you begin, please ensure that you have access to the appliance console or mgmt1 interface. If DHCP is used to obtain mgmt0's IP and that IP address is reserved for this
appliance, no further action is required.
1) Using Appliance Manager's Maintenance - Software Upgrade page, click Install to install the version of software you require.
• Do not set the next boot partition
• Do not reboot
2) Using a console to access the Command Line Interface for the appliance, log in as admin and enter the following commands at the prompt:
SilverPeak > enable [ENTER]
SilverPeak # config t [ENTER]
SilverPeak (config) #reboot empty-db next [ENTER]
The appliance reboots with the version you installed, and a factory default configuration.
Please note: Do not unzip the VXOA software image file. The appliance will process the zipped file as is.
