    Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my post and question.

     

    Apologies, if I do not know something or ask questions as I am still learning for sure.

     

    I have a network that I took over recently. I have multiple segmented VLANS on the same subnet for separate rooms in the building. These are used to connect to a piece of equipment in the room.

     

    These VLANS are all the same subnet and need an IP. I need a range for only 10 addresses on these VLANS to allow a PC to connect, get an IP and get to the piece of equipment in that room to make changes.

     

    I have a core switch HP 5406 and have switches throughout the building HP / Aruba 2930M 24-48 port and HP / Aruba 1950 24-48 port switches.

     

    On the core I can configure the IP / subnet mask as manual for the VLAN. The issue that I am running into and having problems with moving passed is that the 6 VLANs need to be set for the same subnet, and they are fully segmented. When I try to add the IP Address and Subnet Mask for the second VLAN it tells me "Invalid Value" under the subnet mask when I try to save in CLI under Menu>Switch Configuration>IP Configuration.


    For the one I am able to configure I can connect to the switch and get an IP and all looks good. 

     

    How can I achieve this? I can provide any info needed and appreciate the help. Thanks!

    You can assign multiple non-overlapping IP segments to a particular VLAN Id but you can't assign multiple overlapping IP segments to that VLAN Id nor you can use the same IP segment on different VLAN Id(s). See examples below (within VLAN 100 and between VLAN 100 and VLAN 200):

    Possible (non overlapping IP segments on the same VLAN Id):

    VLAN 100
    IP    10.0.100.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)
    IP    10.0.200.254 (Secondary IP)
    Net 10.0.200.0 /24 (Secondary Net segment)

    Not possible/permitted:

    VLAN 100
    IP    10.0.100.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)
    IP    10.0.100.1 (Secondary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Secondary Net segment)

    At the same time it's not possible to configure two different VLAN Id(s) each one using the same Net Segment, example:

    Possible (different IP segments on different VLAN Id(s)):

    VLAN 100
    IP    10.0.100.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)

    VLAN 200
    IP    10.0.200.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.200.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)

    Not possible/permitted:

    VLAN 100
    IP    10.0.100.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)

    VLAN 200
    IP    10.0.100.254 (Primary IP)
    Net 10.0.100.0 /24 (Primary Net segment)

    so non overlapping IP segments can be associated with a particular VLAN Id or with different VLAN Id(s).

    Thank you for your reply and confirmation! Much appreciated and that was what I expected based on what I've run into. 

     
    I am trying to give access to these segmented room networks that have the same subnet and IPs assigned to equipment in those rooms to access from the switch in their office. Rather than having to physically go to each room to make changes. I cannot change the IP info in the rooms at this point either.
