This unit left the factory as an IAP-325 (label screenshot below). Somewhere in it's deployment line, it was converted to an external controller based AP.
Fortunately, the reseller has agreed to accept it back. Thanks for your support _()_

that indicates, this is a controller based AP not an instant AP, and you need a controller for it.
if you look at the back of the AP, you should see a sticker what says AP-325 right?

I bought a RJ45/USB A cable at Amazon.
Here is a screen capture of the console messages -- looks like it is trying to find the DNS name of the master controller "aruba-master."
Looks like this IAP-325 was converted from an Instant AP to an AP controlled by an external controller. Am I on the right track?
Also how to convert from this version to an Instant version?

Thanks for confirming the serial port settings. I have ordered a RJ45>USB serial cable.
I'll post my findings from the console for further help.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes -- I did connect the PoE cable to the ENET0 port.
Is the RJ45 console cable standard or do I need a Aruba specific console cable?
I'll be using minicom (Linux desktop).
Will this setting work -- 9600, 8N1?
Thanks.

I am assuming you have connected the E0 to the power injector and not E1.
also just connect a consle cable and see whats going on.

IAP-325 factory reset failing
I have bought a used (off lease) IAP-325 APs. I have configured the LAN DHCP server to give out "assigned" IPs based on the APs MAC address, in my case 172.17.2.20.
The device is powered by a single port Gigabit PoE injector (30W), the LAN port of the injector is connected to the "lab" LAN segment of my network.
I have followed the instructions on this online manual to do a factory reset.
https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/Instant_87_WebHelp/Content/instant-ug/iap-mainten/reset-rap-or-cap.htm?Highlight=reset
With the reset button pressed, when I insert the LAN cable (PoE), the AP powers ON with the power LED flashing *red* for about 2 seconds and then it fast blinks in green color for about 2-3 seconds. After that the power LED blinks slowly (green color).
The DHCP server's lease file shows that 172.17.2.20 was assigned to the AP.
However, ping and 'nmap -sV -A -T5 -sT 172.17.2.20' shows the host '172.17.2.20' is down.
FWIW. I have left the device powered up for 12+ hours and the power LED does a slow blink (green)
What am I missing in the reset process? Thanks so much!
