Instant AP/IAP is something completely different than Instant ON, so it's expected that you can't use the Instant ON app.

I have the same issue and can't get to the link. I have a new account and it says I'm being evaluated.
I just have one IAP2505 access points that I want to attach to a LAN port of my gateway just to increase my wifi range in one direction. I did a factory reset when I hooked it up so it is probably the original firmware at the moment.
I saw how to set it up that the earlier versions simply said instant to get to the AP with your browser and I saw nothing like what was described in the video about locations, a host of settings, etc. Just admin admin and then I could see the point.
Thinking maybe with a firmware update there will be more options. I don't see how to configure it.
I did try the instant on portal and app. For the most part it didn't accept the serial number on the unit. Although a couple times it did look for over ten minutes and never find it. However at that time I thought I only had to power up the AP, not attach via ethernet cable. Now though the app and portal just don't accept the serial number. I did try clearing the cache and memory of the app, but no luck.
I am just using a power supply, not PoE and should be fine with just the standard settings and as I only have one I don't see enterprise solutions for updating many at once would be of any value to me for my use. I'm thinking it I can get a firmware update and run it, that it will detect the AP and update it. But I have no idea how this works.

You should be able to get the 'factory image' from ASP: link.
From the factory image, the check for updates is expected to work to go to the latest stable release for your AP.
If there is no newer image available, make sure you run the upgrade twice to get the firmware also pushed to the backup firmware that is restored on a factory reset. Upgrade to the factory image, then upgrade to the latest will leave the factory image as your backup firmware, which is good as well, no need to do a double upgrade.

I posted regarding getting the latest firmware for IAP305 see below. Now I need to find the latest firmware for the IAP205 without having a contract. I only found the firmware from 2017. Can I get the latest for the IAP205 without a contract?
This has probably been asked before but here I go - can you update the firmware on a IAP305 without a contract. The internal check for new firmware doesn't work and it is really had to determine if I can download the file manually. When I try from the support site it says something about "HP will contact me in 2 days...." and doesn't let me download it.
