    hi Airhead,

my original post (yesterday) is confusing so i decided to post again with better explanation.

I need to import a list of 500 email addresses into clearpass guest account databas and that process needs to trigger an smtp event to send account details

    to each of the users.

I can set up an account manually and that process triggers an smtp event to the user, but how could this from a mass import ?

    cheers

    Pete

Pretty sure this isn't possible.  Next best option might be to allow/enable the "reset password" functionality using the self service portal, that way they can indicate a forgotten password and set their own.

    hi Carson,

    thanks for getting back.

i tried the self-service portal "reset password" but i get Password reset is unavailable for your account. You may need to login first.

    hi Carson,

yes you're right you can't do it.

i was wondering about using a script (using API calls) is this something you have knowledge about?

    cheers

I'll ask a different question.  Why require login at all?  Why not just a simple AUP or just an open guest network?  Do you have plans to actually track device to email activity?

the customer wants to limit usage to a specific list of emails (parents of pupils) they do not want any pupils using it.

so they have asked the parents for their email addresses.

    does this make sense.

    i'm open to suggestions.

    cheers

So the students have no other guest wifi? What's different about this "parents only" network than the normal guest network?

    good question.

the pupils have an AD account and monitored for their usage.

They want to keep it like that.

They don't want them jumping on the guest network hence the requirement for "parent only" access etc.

    cheers

What's stops a pupil from typing in their parents email?

    exactly,

it's got to be an email address and password.

the guest page would be a "username" and "password" backed off to the guest user database.

so we import 500 x email addresses and then email their details to the parents.

Hence the need to "auto-smtp" when importing the list into the guest user database.

you can do it one at a time but that's very time consuming.
