I would avoid any static IP configuration, use DHCP wherever you can.
First of all, make sure your DHCP does not go down (redundancy), and if it goes down your clients can't get IP addresses probably. Especially on smaller sites, the DHCP is included in a router or firewall, which if it goes down you probably have other things to worry about.
If a DHCP server goes down, the AP (or other device) will keep it's IP till the lease expires (or the AP reboots).

You can do it in both ways - static or via DHCP.
The most common way is by DHCP. Makes operation much more easy and is the Best Practise way.
For Microbranch as an example you have to have DHCP - static is not supported (as of now).

Subject: IP settings for Central AP
is it advisable to configure the AP i have in Aruba Central to get IP from DHCP server?
or is it better to set as static IP?
we are thinking of expanding the subnet for the AP as the number of AP is getting more.
currently is 10.90.2.xx/24, we are thinking of expanding to 10.90.2.xx/23 and let them get IP from our DHCP server instead of setting static in Central
