  • 1.  Link Aggregation between 4210G and 5500

    Posted Aug 30, 2010 05:49 AM

    Hi,

I'am trying to get a link aggregation SFP working between a 5500 (3CR17259-91 ) and 4210G (3CRS42G-24-91) in trunk mode, but it wont work only in access mode. what i want is a static aggregation (LACP enabled) in trunk mode it will only work when i change them to access ports.

I have more aggregation links to the 5500 with 4200g (3CR17661-91 ) and that works fine LACP and Trunk mode between the switches, but not with the 4210G.

    Can anyone help me.

Maybe you have reached the maximum amount of Link Aggregation Groups on 4210G. I am not sure, but I think that the maximum groups you can create in the 4210G is up to eight groups, static or dynamic.

    Hi Fred,

Thanks for responding, i have only one link aggregation on the 4210G, and 7 groups on the 5500. I have connected four 4200G with aggregation links to the 5500 with trunk ports but the 4210G will not work with the trunk only with access ports then the ports become selected and with trunk unselected.

Then make a double check in the port settings, this is weird. When the settings are exactly the same there is no way to malfunction. Anyway, certify that the cable is really ok. At last year I faced a problem with a Cat6 cable that was forcing a Etherchannel (Cisco) to came down.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the exact problem and I can't find anything on this.  I have two 4210-48G switches and when I to try aggregate (either static or LACP) *trunk* ports, they will not "select" and stay in the unselected state.  I have one other 4 port LAG going to another switch (static LAG, access ports) and it's working fine.  Before I spend anymore time of this...is this a known problem with the switches?  Is there an important step left out of the manual that makes this work?

    Hi,

First I inform you, that my english is poor :)

I have the same problem and today I resolved it !

If you want make a Link Aggregation beetwen 4210G and new A-series HP 5500 :

    1. Port link type to Access.

    2. Make Link Aggregation Static (LACP Disabled) or Dynamic (LACP Enabled) - on both switch the same.

    3. And now is importatnt ! On switch 5500 change link type LINK AGGREGATION - BAGG1 to trunk .

No every port link type !

    Menu :

Device->Port Mangement->Aggregation Port->BAGG1 (select it and change Link Type)

    4. On switch 4210G change link type every port belong to Link Aggreagtion to trunk !

    5. And now VLAN !

On switch 550 you change vlan on BAGG1 ! Not on every port belong to Link Aggregation !

    Menu:

    Device->Network->Vlan->Modify Port->Aggregation Port->BAGG1

    6. On switch 4210g change vlan on every port belong to Link Aggregation.

    Best regards, Lukasz
