Check here. A facility code is used to specify the type of system that is logging the message. Messages with different facilities may be handled differently.
It's more like a category/label and in general the contents of a log message depends on what is sending it, but the local0-7 are undefined and the log content/format or timestamp is independent of the facility.

Subject: Logging Facility
Hello,
I was wondering what changes in logging facility levels. Like what is the difference between local7 or local5 ? I saw a problem with the logging format and been digging into it. Does it effect the logging format like headers or timestamps? Thank you.
