    Hello Everyone,

We are looking for an alternative to J9142B/J9143B.

Does anyone know what would be the solution?

Hi! What Switch Series are you referring to when you look for alternative options to those two SKUs?

    Hello Parnassus,

I think we will use 2540 or 2530 switches and one module J9988A

    Hello Arnaud,

If you want to reuse [*] the J9142B (Downstream)/J9143B (Upstream) pair you can on some - not all - current Switch Series (according to ArubaOS-Switch and ArubaOS-CX Transceivers and DAC Guide, 8th edition on Aruba 2530 they should be OK, on Aruba 2540 they should not instead.

If you want instead to replace those two EoS SKUs and use new 1G SFP LC Transceivers (Long Run = up to 10 km with Single Mode Fiber with 9/125 micrometers core/cladding diameters) you have currently to use the J4859C (or the newer J4859D) as alternative for such log run.

Also, according to the above guide the J4859C and J4859D are both supported on mostly all current switch series; for sure on Aruba 2530/2540 switch series and also on Aruba 5400R zl2 switch series equipped with J9988A v3 zl2 Module, as example.

[*] As of April 2016, the J9142B and J9143B 1G BX transceivers have been End of Sale.

    Hello Parnassus,

First of all, thank you so much for spending time on my case.

Second, I should precise that we have to use simplex optical fiber.

    Does J4859C/J4859D support Bi-directionnal mode?

I can't see any transceivers supporting this mode on hp / aruba products portfolio.

    Thank you in advance,

    No, they don't.

I believe that's because, speaking about 1 Gbps (SFP) BiDi optical transceivers, they are mostly disused these days.

Some HP/HPE Comware based switch series too supported (not all platforms) in the past the JD098B (Upstream) and the JD099B (Downstream) pair - for SMF 9/125 um (up to 10 km) - but, again, as per your BiDi pair they look mostly disused these days.

Have had two customers in last month asking for 1 GbE SFP SMF BiDi BX Support on 2930M. Can we not 'support' the EOS transceivers J9142B/J9143B with "allow-unsupported-transceivers" mode. (the technologies enabled and referenced include 1000BX-D/U SFP-LC). Seems to also imply in the latest Transceiver Guide that 2530 supports J9142B/J9143B (2540 / 2930M listed as officially not supported SFP type, however does this mean therefore 'unofficially' supported via Unsupported Transceiver Mode). Thx

It would be really strange [*] to discover that HP genuine J9142B and J9143B SKUs become supported through the allow unsupported (3rd party) transceivers feature deployed on switch series such as the Aruba 2540 or Aruba 2930M...I don't say it is an impossible scenario or that it is an unreasonable one...but it would be for sure quite funny (allowing a genuine HP part as it is a non genuine one)...probably the reason behind their unsupportability on some platforms is strictly hardware/software related (question: why on Aruba 2530 they are supported and they aren't on Aruba 2540 instead?).

[*] Although not strange enough (UT-Mode suggested):

Yes, i have told my customer that simplex optical fiber is not used anymore these days, and I can't find any 10Gb/s Bi-Directional transceivers either.

As a workaround, we will try a pair of transceivers like these.

    Thank you for your efforts.
