I have a question about the passphrase of a virtual Mobility Master. Does anyone know how the passphrase is generated?

In two occasions, twice in a Hyper-V cluster, the passphrase of the Mobility Master "suddenly" changed after the appliance was rebooted. This resulted in the loss of licenses and we had to transfer the licenses to the new passphrase.

Both times the customer told us they didn't change anything on the virtual appliance. I guess the MM virtual appliance can migrate to another Hyper-V or VMware host without any problems. So I am curious what triggered the change of the passphrase.

The passphrase is generated and the generation process uses the virtual MAC address of the appliance as one of the variables. Therefore you should make sure that the MAC address doesn’t change under Hyper-V when the appliance moves to another host, reboots, gets upgrade or every other scenario. You have the option to configure a static the MAC address in Hyper-V.

You should also do this for AirWave, which can “loose” eth0 if the MAC address changes.

The Passphrase is generated using UUID parameter which is supposed to be unique for each VM device.
Each virtual machine is automatically assigned a universally unique identifier (UUID).
So we should confirm that the UUID is not changed whenever the MM reloads/reboots.

Otherwise, it might be a bug as well.
