  • 1.  Native Vlan and vlan 1

    Hello,

This problem has been reported many times but I can't find the right configuration to work properly.

Here is the design I need for my customer (Yes I know using vlan 1 is not the best option but I must compose with the existing architecture)

All works as desired except for the particular SSID which need to be in vlan 1.

If a client connect to SSID3 he falls into the management vlan.

So as I found on many forums the workaround would be to set the uplink switch native vlan. I've done the config like following.

Then the client connecting to SSID3 doesn't fall into the management vlan but he never get an ip address from the dhcp server in vlan 1.

If I manually set an ip adress on the client I have no connectivity in the vlan1

Another interesting thing is that a packet capture from the client (wifi side) show some broadcast and multicast of vlan1 so the client is in the right vlan but no connectivity to it.

Is this config good ? Have I missed something ?

    Thanks for your help

I would avoid the use of VLAN1, as in theory it's just an number similar to VLAN 10 or 12, but in practice different equipment treats it different where VLAN 1 may mean the native VLAN or untagged.

Some switches may do VLAN translation, or you could on a inter-switch link connect another VLAN on the uplink as native and put VLAN1 untagged on the upstream switch to get rid of VLAN1 wherever you can. Or the ugly solution, create a new VLAN and configure a port in that VLAN and one in VLAN1, then put a cable between those ports.

    Thanks Herman for your answer.

I've tested the same config in lab and it works so I think that my customer made a wrong vlan config.
