If new APs are provisioned as controller-based, they will use the images obtained from the controller, 8.6.0.16 (current newest 8.6.0.20)
is a long-term support release and has proven quite stable in large, complex environments. 8.8 and 8.9 are short term releases.
Personally, i would in fact recommend connecting the AP505 to the controller with 8.6.0.16, and move to replace the AP103s, then upgrade all to 8.10.0.6 or later - if and when appropriate.
If the new sites will have separate new controllers and only AP505s, one might install 8.10.0.6 at this new site, and migrate the existing sites from 8.6.0.16
when and if appropriate.

Subject: New AP 505 on old controller (Aruba 7205) version 8.6.0.16
Hi Team,
I have one query,
There is Aruba 7205 controller (firmware version 8.6.0.16) in the network and some New AP's are procured for upcoming sites. New APs are Aruba 505 (firmware version 8.9.0.1_82154).
Under Aruba 7205 controller (firmware version 8.6.0.16) - there are AP 103 (Max version support 8.6.0), AP 207 (Max version support 8.10), AP 305 (Max version support 10.0).
So my query is, do i need to downgrade the new AP 505 APs to 8.6.0.16 version (Which is not recommended, i think so). If it is not recommened what could be the other option ?
