It works pretty good for a year already.

However, starting from last week, the wireless card suddenly disappeared after rebooting. Sometimes it may appear again (just around 10% of chance) after reboot. I am really tired of it !!

Tried everything to update. But the problem us not solved. My notebook is out of warranty (after one year). What should I do?

Okay well my HP TX1000 WLAN disappeared a week after I reformatted. I have an extended warranty with it however I heard horror stories with tech support. Has anyone who recently called tech support or heard anything about a resolution for the WLAN problem? I mean I want to call ASAP but I want to have some info on what to tell them, like if I should request a new WLAN card (other than broadcom or whatever its called), motherboard, etc?ion? I

Same problem man. And I've been reading up on the DV6000 and 9000 series forum about the same problem. DOesn't look good. I got my computer a year ago and my warranty is almost up. I'm going to chat with tech support and try to get a box sent to me so I can send it in.

Very frustrating. I've tried pretty much everything.

Reinstallation of the drivers and bios flashing to latest firmware. Hope HP support will be better with me than they have with others.

    Yes!

So...Man I love the tech guy I just got. The nicest out of the last three.
Guy from Canada ;) Knew I could count on a Canadian to be friendly.

So after doing all the various stuff the other tech's told me to do.
I called in today, and the Canadian Tech, John, is sending me a box to send my computer in.

He first suggested sending me a new Wireless Card. However I reminded him that my Warranty is out in a week, and that I would really like to just get the MoBo replaced, and he agreed that that would probably would be the best path for me. The guy was actually quite understanding and just left me with a good experience. Though the first two Tech's did have me do all the other troubleshooting beforehand, that stuff is kind of procedure and not easy to immediately get around of.

John also made sure that this will be put all under my warranty so I don't pay a penny! Props to John, who lives in Nova Scotia!! Cheers! I'd buy you a beer if you didn't live so far away!

So tips my fellow HP customers,
Just be persistent and nice. Being nice is very very important. Nice but assertive. Keeping the mood light. If the Tech starts small talk during wait times, join in!

After I get my computer fixed I'm probably going to sell my computer to EBAY, first thing. Then buy a new computer. I can't deal with HP, at least not this series of computers. I will probably go to Apple, but let's see how good of a job they do on the repair.

I'll give a follow-up when I get my computer back, which will probably be in 2 weeks unless they delay the repair for longer.

    Andrew

thanks Andrew for sharing your experience.

I have tried on-line chat and keep emailing them but the answer is just waste of time (flashing BIOS, update drive.... blah blah blah..)

My laptop have benn 1.5 years old and our of warranty. I sent email to HP to ask for sending me a courier box to send them already. I dont know if I need to pay for the repair

You have a bad motherboard. This is causing the wireless to not work. Eventually the computer will die. Demand that they fix it for free, even if your computer is out of warrenty. You are due a free repair for this problem.

For more information on this problem, do a google search for "Wayne Sallee" "hp".

This is a known problem, that has been going on for a long long time.

    Hey Wayne,

What advice can you give me about handling Tech support and there run around/lies so I don't waste time just doing there little fixes that don't work? Do I tell the straight up that I know this a common problem with majority of laptops and I'm requesting a new motherboard or laptop? I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the laptop.

    Thanks

    issue: wifi hardware disappearing

    HP Pavilion tx1000z CTO NB
    purchased march 9 2007
    one year warranty
july 28 2008 i unplugged the working laptop from power, carried it to another room, plugged it back into outlet and realized that wifi light switch in front is growing amber and that windows does not see wifi hardware

up until the incident i ran vista sp1, current with all updates; bios F.1E; 2.00 A NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver; Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista 7.00 E; HP Wireless Assistant 3.00 I; NVIDIA nForce Chipset/Network Drivers 5.53 A; Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows Vista 2.00.

last windows update - 7/25; nothing in the event log.

the laptop was in light use, mostly as email/music/multimedia/word processing for 3-4 hrs a day. it always was connected via wifi. the manual wifi trigger was almost never used.

when the problem happened, i did all the usual steps - reinstalled drivers, flashed bios, unpowered and removed battery, etc. only once the wifi came back up after power down, battery remove for 10 minutes, and then powering back on. no amount of tinkering could bring it back afterward.

booting into linux revealed the same thing - there is no wifi hardware. the wifi switch in front keeps glowing amber.

called support, case 801-427-6116. spent 1 hr 40 minutes; got escalated from frontline (shawn?) to tech support (?) to supervisor (michelle?). according to her, they have no known cases for tx1000, but they do have a known recall for dv6000. note however, that tx1000 is relatively new (i believe my model based on amd cpu became available a month before my purchase), so that if there is a problem that manifests itself 15 months after purchase, we would see the reports starting to trickle in right about now.

the supervisor could do nothing for me, except for usual 600+ for mobo sent to me or 300+ to send in for fixes. so i gave up.

i will purchase a usb wifi card and shop around for another laptop. this was my first brush with hp after 10+ laptops over the years with other manufacturers (i buy for myself, family, friends, and recommend to others), and unless hp does something to change my opinion, it will be the last for a while.

so the only hope is to speak up and report this problem as much as you can. post similar details and call in - they track the number of calls related to a problem, and hopefully once it reaches a certain threshold, they will be forced to act.

if you remain silent, they will never even know there is a problem.

please post links to other posts discussing this. with enough concrete data we should be able to build a case and hold hp responsible. post on your blogs and link to this entry, this way google search will pick this issue up and bubble it to the top.

Well, I thought I had lost my mind until I read the postings. I have a Presario v6101us and two days ago I woke up turned it on and all I got was the amber light on the WLAN switch. I have downloaded WLAN drivers, BIOS updates and done a complete recovery from disks and nothing. I was having no trouble with it up to the point of turning it on. I am out of warranty by 5 months. I will be giving support a call tomorrow, anything more I should know before I go off the deep end?

I also have the same laptop as yours and I also have the same problem.

I'm still in my warranty but the problem is that I'm already living in the Philippines and a bought my Laptop in the US.

I hope HP would do something about it.

By-the-way: Do you know if the warranty can be carried to a different country? I'm just curious. LOL...

My Pavilion TX 1000 did the same thing after about 15 months. I spend hours online talking to tech who went as far as to recommend a factory restore. One tech recommended taking out the wireless card and putting it back in, and for now it is working. Bad connection? Worth a try - pretty simple thing to do. Here's to hoping its a permanent fix and works for you as well.

Hi Ankie, I had tried unpluging the wireless lan card and then re-plug, no success.

Then I found a Intel wireless lan card from a friend and then substituded it into the HP TX1000, no success.

Therefore, the problem is not the lan card itself or the contact with the wireless lan card and motherboard.

But just try this luck, i think this would work for some time.

Furthermore, I really need to express my thankful to HP to make such an incredible machine that we can try our luck.

    When we are down or frustrated, just try to plug/unplug the lan card, reboot, update, whatsoever;
1)if the wireless appear again, WOW !! You are lucky today !!!
2)if the wireless did not show up and say hi to you, it is normal !! Don't be sad. Eventually one day it will smile to you

I seem to have figured out the resolution to the wireless assistant not working problem.

I have two Presario s with Vista OS. Just like I read countless others posting the sudden disappearing wireless assistant also described as their system not seeing their wireless cards, I experienced the same thing.

Normally fixes are easy to find on the Internet But this one seems really illusive.

I tried system restore points three times and finally did a full new factory system revert. With Vista you reboot and tap the F-11 key and use the options to revert back to factory settings. That did not fix the wireless assistant issue. Ive spend four hours reading the HP tech support and other forums and no one has the answer. I fixed the issue in this way:

Go to - Start, run and enter devmgmt.msc and hit the enter key.

Once the device manger is open find the + sign next to Network Adapters.

This will reveal your wireless network controller. Now left click to highlight and then right click on the network controller and select the option: Update driver software. This will allow the driver update to find the network controller and apply the fix. Simply downloading the new driver from HP ##will not work.

Now reboot your computer. Your blue light should be back on. Now a mouse hover over the connection icon in your system tray will show that you are not connected to a network but will see the router or networks that were not there before. Use the Connect to a network option there to connect your wireless connection.

I hope this helps and I dont mind giving others help if they encounter the same issue.

    Hey Peeps,

I bought my Tx1000 from my friend in HK for a bargain and last weekend the wireless card disappeared.

I spent two weeks trying every trick I could find from all the forums.

This ranged from - trying a system restore, to updating Nivia Graphics card, Flashing BIOS, to entering command prompts to update Wireless SSID recognition.

Two things worked - One slightly the other permanently

The first thing that worked was removing all power and holiding off button for 2 mins - on restarting - the system said new hard ware found installing broadcom drivers. This worked.. and then it disappeared after hibernation.

The second thing was to do a system check and install the broadcom drivers - on doing so - I was given the message - drivers in stalled and wireless card switched on. I have not had any trouble since.

Links attached - NOTE - when installing drivers. The run button only extracts data to the C drive. You have to note the path and run set up from the extracted file.

Hope it works for you guys and girls

Hi guy, i am brazlian and do not speak a very good english, so i will do my best

i have the same problem that all u guys have, and i read on another forum, that for Xp a windows update, being more specific a "hotfix" kills your wireless.

when i look for the update that the guy on the another forum told i didn't find it, so i remove all others hotfix, and for my surprise, it works.

and don't know if it works for windows vista, but worth a shot.

i hope u guys have the same luck as i am. bye to all.!!!

I have the same problem with my wireless card as do thousands of other people who purchased HP laptops. If HP cared at all they would do a formal recall and fix the problem. This has cost me money when I really needed to get on the network, but could not use the wireless card.

I am a computer tech and a chip design engineer and as far as I can see is that the dv2000/6000/9000 and tx1000 share the same architecture. They share the same parts and HP R&D probably just changed the physical form factor (size of the board) to fit it in all these products. From their FAQ regarding the new BIOS, all they are doing is spinning the fan faster to cool your parts inside. It's not rocket science that many laptops have failed, it's thermal diffusion in the semiconductor which speeds up exponentially at high temperatures. I've spoke with the tech support and eventually head quarters and they aren't doing anything for my friend who owns the tx1000. The people at HP actually acknowledged that they've had a lot of instances but there's no company wide action yet for the tx1000. So I encourage all of you to call head quarters and raise your voice, DIRECT LINE 1-905-206-4725. You deserve better.

Wow this started happening to me too! Will HP do anything about this?! I bought my computer about 15 months ago... and laptops don't start failing so quickly...

In the meantime, I'm trying all of the above.. restarts... disconnecting WLAN card... turning all power off (including removing battery)... doing system restores...reinstalling drivers... sometimes they work, sometimes they don't... It's such a huge waste of time!

NEVER AN HP EVER EVER AGAIN!

    Hi all,
Well... months ago my Wireless Card vanish, like almost all of you, but was working fine.

Last night the computer wonâ t come back after hibernation and I had to turn it down manually.
Today sept 14 2008 it does try to turn on, all the ledâ s turn on, but its just stay there, no hp logo in the screen, no boot at all. What can I do??

I have a question for the people with the same problem,
¿ Itâ s the hard drive ok?
    Mean all my documents??

I work with this pc, and a year of work is in there, I canâ t afford to lose all my documents.

    Please someone reply :( T.T

    Can it be fixed??
Or did I just lose 1.500 USD??

Sorry Carlos! I hope you can fix it, but one of my friends said to me that his HP pavilion (bought at the same time as me) stopped booting suddenly and it just died. He was not able to recover anything.

Sadly, the same thing happened to another friend with his HP Pavilion just a few months after his 1 yr warranty had expired (He was able to recup his hard drive though).

I hope this is not your case, but I reply so that HP can be aware of the huge mess it's causing!

    @ carlos andres cortes

Your hard drive is most likely recoverable. You can get a USB hard drive adapter for it, and copy the files off of it. If your hard drive proves to be corrupt, you can purchase hard drive recovery software off of the internet, and recover it. That's what I had to do when my HP laptop crashed my hard drive.

You can get the software at http://www.runtime.org

This post has not yet been censored by HP.

Yes you can put any usb wireless card in, and use it, but eventually your computer will die, and could crash your hard drive. The bad motherboard can also cause your usb wireless to stop working as well.

    Hi all,
    Hi @Wayne Sallee,

So the real problem of these notebooks
    "(tx1000 and alike)"
    is a bad motherboard ?
if so, what kind of good motherboard is recommended ?

    thanks in advance.

Okay what steps can we take in getting this resolved? We know that the motherboard is PROBABLY the main issue. Running hot etc.. but what can we do other than calling and getting the run around.. I called twice and will keep calling until I can demand for a new replacement of a different model. Maybe small claims court? I dunno.. this is stupid..

Well I bought my TX1308nr from Best Buy during November of 2007 and It was working great up until August of 2008. I had bought the extended warranty from them. I did get it back with a new motherboard but it still had the same issue. So now I'm on the 3rd repair job and from what I'm reading it seem like the issue will happen again. So if I have a 4th repair job I get a replacement computer that is either new or used.
All I can say is that I am not happy because I use this computer for school and I love to take notes on this system. But without it I have been cut down to using a old HP Omnibook 5700ctx that really out of date, but it works.

As for replacing the motherboard, you have to send it in, and let them replace it with whatever motherboard they feal like replacing it with. Then that motherboard will soon fail too.

I build my own desktop computers, and so I can choose any motherboard I want, and replace it with any motherboard I want, with in reason and compatability.

With laptops they are all proprietory, so you are stuck with whatever they give you.

Yes, I think it is the 3rd time that you have to have your computer fixed, you get a new computer. If you can get them to give you a new computer to replace it, be sure to get one with an intell motherboard and processor. So far they don't seem to be having the problems.

I have tx1000. My wireless card ( draft N )simply just disappeared after one year. Tired eveything, but in vain. Chatted with HP support. They told me it will cost me 400 bucks to fix it. Too bad.

Few days after I called HP support again. If you call support guy cant see chat transcript, because they dont have access ? WTF?

Anyway, now this guy tells me that he can ship me a new card if I pay 85 bucks.

This laptop has a battery life of an hour and quarter. It heats up like metal. You cant put it up on the lap despite it being a laptop. Such a peice of crap. Dont buy touchscreen laptops from HP ever.

I call HP , chat online and talk with thousands of HP staff. finally they told us that i need several thousands dollar (HKD) to repair. I give up already. This crap company is bullshit. PLS told any of your friends NOT to buy from HP anymore.

I tried everything in this forum, it doesnt work.

I also tried to change the lan card myself, it doesnt work neither! Therefore, my frd, dont spend 85 BUCKS to buy a wireless lan from HP. It wastes $$.

Anyone, I hope I can have it a day (or an hour) that the wireless comes normal then I sell to second hand store. I NEVER wanna see any devices from HP company any more !!!

Pls anyone (if have time and $), pls sue HP in court so that the news can explode over the world.

After months of being stationary with my tx1000 I finally bought a D-Link wireless card that fits into the slot where the remote goes nicely. It doesn't stick out as far as a USB adapter would, but I am sure that would work well too. Has been working fine for the past week. Still hope HP gets their act together and helps everyone fix the problem to their satisfaction, but in the mean time this works for me. If you are interested you should check out dlink.com for something to get you online again - w/o wires.

    Hi everybody!

last sunday i had some free time.

I backup all my files to my mobile harddisk.

And i do the system recovery to the factory reset status. I think the problem should be solved (at least, the wireless should come out to say hi for some days).

The interest thing is that the WIFI still vanish after a FACTORY RESET!!

The worst thing is that i cannot turn on my lab-top everytime. (around 30-50% that I can turn it on, other time, the screen is still black though the leds are all on!)

I think bringing in a d-link wireless adaptor is only a temporary solution. In one day, the lab-top will die.

I am still trying hard to contact with HP for a free repair (or exchange a model with Intel processor). Keep your update!

Same here. HP has asked me to send the laptop to them for repair. It is an hardware issue. Cost of repair is 300 bucks because it is out warranty. There is no problem with wifi card as i have tested it by replacing the card with a brand new card. It is differnt story now that I have to return the new card as if was of no use.
    DAMN!!

i contacted local HP in Hongkong. No reply.

I fill in online form in HP saying that I am from Hongkong. They transfer my case to Taiwan and Taiwan technician said updat driver, bios, all shxt things. Lastly, they said they need to seee the labtop becoz of hardware issue. Then they told me to contact Hongkong.

I email to labtop_en@support.com.hp, people from north america reply me that they know my concerns but TX series is not problem in their list. They cannot help anymore. Then they said I should find local HP.

HP really so care their customers. HAHAHAHA what a joke.

Here too, I have a tx1220us, it worked fine for 16 months and this week wireless just dissapear, it doesn't list anywhere, I have it working with linux for last 10 months. I have a Win XP partition and sometimes wireless comes back but in linux nothing seems to bring it back, it just is not there.
I have had cheaper laptops than this one working fine for years, this problem should be fixed by HP without charging anything, they sell this laptop with a hardware flaw. I will be calling support at least to increase the amount of reports on this model.

I own a Pavilion tx1000 and my wireless went from blue to red exactly 3 days after my warranty expired. How convenient for HP. Without internet access I was stuck using tech support via phone. But, of course, before I could speak with someone I had to pay $49. Tech support acted like I was the first person with this problem and made me go through a few exercisesâ update BIOS, remove and then replace wireless card, etc. and then completely restore my computer. Stupid me believed them and spent the past 48 hours backing up and restoring my computerâ when I called tech support w/ a question about the restore process the guy told me that I only paid to ask questions about my wireless problem and I could not ask questions that were not directly related to the wireless issue. I called back hoping for a nicer tech support person but got a sales pitch to purchase other HP items, and when I called back again to speak with a different person I got another sales pitch. Fourth callâ ¦I was told I need a new wireless card and I could buy one through HP or go to Best Buy. I went to Best Buy today and the guy at Geek Squad said that the part I was told to buy is only manufactured and sold by HPâ I donâ t understand why HP tech support sent me to Best Buy! My latest call-- demanding a refund for the $49 for wasting my time and money. I bought a Linksys USB wireless adapter so I can at least access the internet nowâ ¦how do I figure out what is wrong with my wireless???

Same problem with me since this morning 28/10/2008. Mine TX 1220us bought in USA thirteen months ago. Used as a spare laptop in my Lisbon flat probably used 30 hours since new.
    Symptoms
    1. Turn on computer all lights on ok. Hard drive noise & light on for a couple of seconds.
    2. The blank screen!
    3. Fan running all else ok
(Checked power supply removed battery etc but no joy!)
Like all the rest of us I was shocked to see the common HP Tx1000 problem on this forum thread & the lack of interest from HP technical support.
Anybody else out there with same problem please join this thread to exert pressure for a solution

I had the same exactly same issue. I has posted the message about it yesterday. Not sure where did it disappear. Turn on the laptop, hear moving parts for like three second and then everything including laptop display becomes quite.. blank screen, no message, all lights on. That'z it. Does not go beyond that.
Called them, they say it looks like motherboard issue. Why does all this problems show up exactly one year after purchase right after warranty expires? Seems like bad way of making money. I had same issue with my Motorola cellphone. It died exactly after its manufacturer warranty expired.
I am doomed and so depressed. I am really worried about my critical data.

Anyway I send this laptop to "The Source" due to mailing problems (HP does not provide any mailing services for Ontario) and they told me that I have to pay 475 $ (motherboard down. Never gonna buy any HP product in my life.

Same problems with my tx1000. Started with wireless LAN going out at one year old. Another 10 or so months later, display wigged out had to power off and on several times before it recovered. After the third time of same problem within about 2 weeks, laptop won't recover. I bought a new battery thinking it might fix the problem. A few tries with the new battery and now the thing won't even do the harddrive light flash thing. The lights flash once and then immediately shut off. It acts like a dead battery, but does the same with or without battery and whether or not I let it charge.

C'mon people! What are we going to do about this?! We can't let HP get away with this crap!

hi guys, i'm currently using a dv6105us, the dv6000 series... a few months ago, i also started to lose my wireless device... i was trying to figure out why, but to no avail, i have decided to purchase a usb wireless card that a few days later when suddenly my computer wouldn't turn on... turns out my video was dead (built-in nvidia)... bought it to hp in manila, and they said it was the video, and since it's integrated, the whole board had to be replaced, USD550... well, i couldn't come up with that much money.. so i decided to bring it somewhere else, i bought it to a place where i had my brothers old notebook repaired, and they said they just had to repair the video, which means using a hot air to resolder it back... well it cost me USD80 for it, and it worked... and, when i got the notebook, and started testing it, my wireless was back!!! so, in conclusion, i'm not sure if the wireless disappearing act has something to do with the video, but as of now, that's my speculation... if any of you guys also experience the faulty video a few weeks after the wireless issue... let's hear it out....

It will only take a few months before you will start noticing symptoms of the new motherboard being bad.

They are all bad. They are still replacing them with bad motherboards.

I got a black marker and blacked out the HP name on the cover of my laptop. I don't want anyone to see my HP laptop, and make the bad decision to buy one too.

i had talked with the case manager already and i expressed my dissappoinment within our commuication around 30 mins. He repeatedly said that they did not find any other 1 case the same as me in Hongkong. He said if his computer does not shows any record of the problems of wifi and dead. Therefore , he told me that I MUST pay for repairing.

I do wanna to get my HP tx 1000 fixed. But what can i do besides talking to the HP case manager ?

(p.s. I also emailed to the CEO of HP and his secretary answered that my email would be transferred to relevant dept. But after around 2 weeks, i do not get any reply till now.

I am almost sure that HP is very much aware of this problem. It is almost hard to believe that they have not been made aware of this TX series defect. I think that they are just conveniently brushing off the problem in the hopes that it will eventually go away.

I had an interesting conversation with the case manager which was repeatedly posted here 1-877-917-4380. she claims that she is the one in charge of this specific problem but yet claims that she knows nothing of this issue. It would be really great if everyone can call her. She also claims that HP values our concerns and once there are more than half a dozen complain regarding the same issue HP normally would take the steps in recognizing the problem. I mentioned to her to check out these forums and that not only we are exceedingly more than half a dozen with identical issues that should be acknowledged. She also cross examined/interrogated me and my relationship wth my TX1000 and what went wrong and once in awhile reiterated that my case (problem) had no bearing on everyone's posting in this forum because each individual case differs. After the cross examination she figured that the caused of my laptop's death was the fact that I had used an external wireless device (I had to buy one in order to connect to the internet) she claims that because of this and I, knowingly used a device that was not authorized by HP it had eventually caused my laptop to fail due to a conflict.

Immediately, after I hung up with her I called tech support (without giving details of my own personal information) I mentioned that I've been having a problem with my TX1000's wireless device dissapearing for several weeks now and would it be fine if I use an external wireless device in order to connect to the internet. the tech support guy did not ask in details nor volunteered any other help but just said it was perfectly fine. I then ask him if he wanted to walk me through fixing my wireless network device that kept dissapering and he stated that it would be much more convenient to use my external wirless device since I already have one handy. I then asked him if HP recommends a specific brand or type he said not really and any usb external wireless device will do.

Nevertheless, this sums up my eventful conversation with our supposedly case manager and her efforts in trying to dodge this serious TX problem.

Besides complaining... let's make sure to tell EVERYONE around us to NOT get an HP. Hopefully the word will get out that they make disposable computers for the price of good long lasting ones.

    Hey all,
I got the same problem here with my HP tx1000 cto. I've had it for about 14 months and then it began to have problems. Within 2 months it crashed and repair guy told me its the motherboard.

I think someone who has a knowledge of websites MUST CREATE a website so all of us with these problems can post on one website. This may also put more pressure on HP to help resolve our issues. Also give it a good name like HPdownthetoilet.com. We'll show this company the true meaning of customer satisfaction and that we will not be ignored!!!

And I called, wasted time to wait for someone who can answer you. Than a Madam talked to me, used 10 mins to creat my profil.ok, she told me that mini wireless doesn't work, because it's out of warranty, so I need to pay if it's repaired,it will cost 450$! OMG! I can buy another Labtop. I googled the price, it costs just 19$+, I can change myself, but I'm not prety which one I could replace. So do you have some suggestions? thanks.

The motherboard ultimately seems to be the problem...Has anyone tried replacing it themselves? There is a company in Hong Kong who sells it for $220. Still disappointing to have to spend that kind of money, but at least it's less than HP is charging and we're not giving them any more of our money!

This is my first time posting, and low and behold: I have had the exact same issue with the tx1000 series. I will briefly summarize the history of the problem.

I bought the laptop around 1.5 years ago. About 1 month before the 12 month warranty was up, I experienced first the problem where it wouldn't recognize my wireless card that was quickly followed by the computer only booting to a blank screen (well boot is the wrong word, just turned fan on). Since it was under warranty, I called and did the hours of tech support and ended up sending it back to be fixed. I got it back the first time, and it said that the "heat sink" had been replaced. When I tried to turn it on, the blank screen problem lo and behold was still there. So I called in and the sent me another box to send it back the second time. So a week later, I get it back and it says that the motherboard was replaced. This time, it actually fixed all the problems, and everything seems to be working correctly.

However, just yesterday (about 6 months after the motherboard replace). I woke up and tried to turn it on after a hibernate, the problem was there again. It would not turn on at all. Only the blank screen if I can get the lights to actually stay on. I called customer support and got the standard line that I could pay to get it fixed being that it is out of warranty.

I also realized that just a few days ago before this happened for the second time, the computer ran "hp health check" and a few problems came up that needed to be "fixed." One of those was "bios update." I ran the bios update, and now I am starting to wonder if that had anything to do with the crash. Most likely not considering I think what is happening here is that our motherboards are burning out do to the prior-mentioned cpu nvidio gsu issue.

Did anybody recently update their bios from hp health check???

I plan on contacting the case manager and emailing the CEO as prior posters have.

I will keep everyone updated!!! GOOD LUCK

The Link above explains the recall. The Computer Models and the issues for this recall. Wireless Card Malfunction is Number 1 on the list.

    Dealing with tech support.

Hp Tech support is driving to minimize any chance of them having to pay for new parts. In saying this.
If your Wireless Card Is not in Device Manager and You have an Amber Light When the Wireless Switch is in the ON positions. This is a Malfunction With the motherboard and not the Wireless Card.

Fixes that will not fix this issue.

    - Trouble Shooting with hp - They like to belame alot of this issue on:

    - Microsoft.
    - Corupt Drivers.

And don't send in your hard drive. Take the hard drive out before you send your computer in.

I have a Pavilion tx1127cl; running Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1, on AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80 GHz with 1.5 Gig memory, purchased in 2007, warranty expired June 30 2008. Computer performed well until November 11, 2008 when upon start up the wireless card does not turn on, HP wireless assistant does not respond and the wireless adapter has disappeared from the device manager. Connecting to internet via ethernet cable still works perfectly. I performed system restore with no luck. I tried new hardware discovery; no luck. I removed the wireless card, restarted the system sans card, then shut down, reinstalled card and restarted system; no luck. I contacted HP Online Chat Support who advised I try BIOS reset, HP Wireless Assistant reinstall and wireless card driver update, all of which I tried; no luck. I took the computer to a local independent computer repair tech who thought the wireless manual switch was broken and told me I would have to send it to HP for repair since the switch is integrated in the motherboard. I contacted HP Online Chat again to ask them about the possibility that the switch was broken and what repair would cost. They informed me mail in repair would be $298. They also again advised BIOS reset, HP Wireless Assistant reinstall and wireless card driver update which I tried again - still no luck. After that I searched online for any clue others were having this problem and I found the HP IT Resource Center Posts that tell me there are many HP customers with a variety of HP models who are all experiencing the same or similar problems I also found that HP is providing "Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" to numerous models but not to all even though we have the precise same symptoms.

Same thing happened to me. i had overheating/hard drive crash problems with my first tx1000. I changed it out three times and got a brand new one. I have changed my new one out 3 times now and next time I have a problem I guess I get a new computer. My last problem was having the wi-fi card go away. I have a few months on my warranty left. Should I make a problem in order to get a new computer? How can I ensure that i don't have the computer crash a few days after my warranty is out. My MoBo was replaced but hopefully it lasts?

My girlfriend's tx1215nr also lost its wireless functionality. it worked off and on for a while but now it never works. hp support had me do a bunch of stuff that didnt help including a bios update which turned the computer into a paperweight for about 4 days until i found a solution in a forum (hold Fn+B and plug in a/c power only and turn on). they need to fix this because it has turned a good computer into a headache!

I got my TX1000 over the summer of 2007. About half a year later, I get disconnected repeatedly while using an ethernet cable (just by watching streaming videos and playing some mmorpg's). In addition to that, I am faced with a black screen when i try to turn on my computer, and it happens a lot more often now. Starting yesterday, my wifi died and it says i don't have it installed. wow, i've been using this product for over a year and now it says its not installed... funny. This issue must be addressed asap, or the reputation of HP will drastically drop.

I have been hung up on 4 times within the past 90 minutes by customer support folks in the Phillippines. This sucks. They have me the corporate 650 number to call. Any ideas on who to ask for?

Another dead wireless card here as well. 1215nr purchased from BB 10/07. Did the $49 tech support and as I was on hold found this forum. They deny knowledge of the issue even though I pointed them to the problem as cited here. They say a new $112 card will fix the problem and that they will warranty the card for 3 months....what a joke. I have 2 other HP/Compaq machines at my home - the TX 1000 will be the last.

My Wireless Card has vanished as well. Pavilion TX1080ea. Man, this sounds bad. How come HP have not recognised this problem and recalled the product?

I think HP is monitoring this thread.
