  • 1.  Possible to use different firmware versions (8.12 and 8.10) within the same setup

    Hi All,

Need to talk to the SE and probably TAC but throwing it out here too.  We're running 2 Conductors (hardware) and around 50 controllers (mostly 7030 & 7205).  We're going through a slow upgrade process (yay K12 fun) from our 215/275/315/375 AP's to 600 series.  The problem I have is that to runt he new 675 external AP's I need to run 8.12 but the 200 series are not supported after 8.10.

I'm wondering if I can run 8.12 on the conductors and the controllers where I have the new 675 AP's but leave the other controllers at 8.10.  If I do this, would the 200's series AP's stop working so I have to keep on the older firmware until we have gotten all the 200 series AP's out of the environment (the 215's are fairly easy to deal with as they are concentrated at a couple of sites but the 275's are spread around multiple sites).

    Thanks

Yes.  That is covered in the documentation under multi-version support.

If your controllers are all clustered, then no. All in a cluster must be on the same code version. If not clustered, individuals can be up to 2 code versions difference. All of your MCs must be at the newest code you're running anywhere.

Multi-version only applies to the relationship between the Mobility Conductors (MCR) and the Mobility Controllers (MC) that are managed by the MCR.  All of the MC participating in a cluster or in a multizone implementation must be running the same version of code.

Thanks everyone for the input - I had read it was possible but I wanted to double/triple check as I like to confirm before I break 50 sites.  No - we aren't running any clusters (not practical for our setup)

Time to start planning the upgrade now.
