Faulted status is not normal. Which Switch (HP/HPE SKU) are you speaking about exactly?

    Hi Parnasus,

    HP J9850A Switch 5406Rzl2
    Software revision KB.16.05.0004

Deployed 2 units of similar models and firmware.

Ironically both are showing similar symptoms, both devices are up and running.

    display poe-power alarm
PSU alarm detail, PSU number : 2
PSU 1 alarm : AUX FAILED
PSU 2 alarm : AUX FAILED

    display poe-power switch state
    Switch Number : 2
Switch 1 state : AUX FAULT
Switch 2 state : AUX FAULT

    Pretty strange.

I deal with a pair of Aruba 5406R zl2 switches deployed into a VSF.

Below the outputs in case of normal Power Supplies states:

    HPE5406Rzl2_VSF# display power
     Power 1 State: Powered
     Power 2 State: Powered

    HPE5406Rzl2_VSF# display poe-power alarm
PSU alarm detail, PSU number : 4
     PSU 1 alarm : POWERED
     PSU 2 alarm : POWERED
     PSU 3 alarm : POWERED
     PSU 4 alarm : POWERED

    HPE5406Rzl2_VSF# display poe-power switch state
    Switch Number : 4
    Switch 1 state : ON
    Switch 2 state : ON
    Switch 3 state : ON
    Switch 4 state : ON

VSF is actually running on KB.16.05.0007.

    Hi Panassus,
Base on the output, is it to upgrade to a latest firmware?
Did you try on the firmware that I’m providing and seeing the same result as what I’ve provided?
Will the existing firmware that I’m using causing any issue to the switch due to the power?
Can you try it out in your lab and advice me accordingly base on the firmware I’m using.

Upgrading to latest available firmware release (with reference to KB.16.04, KB.16.05 or KB.16.06) is - from my personal point of view - always (or, better, often) a good practice to follow. Consider you should always read Release Notes to get used to new features, fixed bugs and known issues.

I can't try your particular firmware release since I haven't a spare Aruba 5406R zl2 to test (all units are in production)...but I'm pretty sure that both Aruba 5406R zl2 standalone units I had before implementing VSF (KB.16.05.0007) were both running older KB versions from factory - I should check which versions they ran since I don't remember now exactly - and I had no Power Supply related/reported false positive (or real) issues at all.

    Thanks Pasnassus.

I believe it is just a minor problem and can be solve with firmware upgrade.

Well, a false positive is always better than a real fault. Totally possible that a Firmware update (or upgrade) will solve that, it's just matter of trying.

What model of power supplies are you using?

    Are they model J9830B ?
