  • 1.  Problems with 802.1x authentication using docking stations

    Posted 10 days ago

    Hello everyone!
I'm setting up 802.1x authentication using docking stations and I'm encountering this problem.
The laptops connect with there usb c interface to the docking station and a virtual adapter with a serial number is created.
The 802.1x authentication configuration is done on this virtual adapter and works correctly, but when the laptop is connected to a new docking station a new virtual adapter is created with a new sequence number that does not have the 802.1x authentication settings.
The mach a ddress pass thru functionality has been activated, but this does not prevent the creation of a new virtual adapter every time a workstation is changed.
Has anyone encountered the same problem and found a work around?
    Many tahanks

Are the devices managed or unmanaged?

Managed devices should automatically apply the 802.1X configuration to any/all Ethernet interfaces.

    Hi,
during testing the configuration was done manually in some PC test windows, but we can test a Gpo to see if the configuration is automatically applied to any interface, thanks for the feedback.

Are these Windows hosts?  Are you pushing the 802.1x settings via GPO?

Can you disable Mac randomization on the virtual adapter?

Or if these are Windows domain members consider certificate based authentication
