  • 1.  ProCurve Switch 2510G-24 (J9279A) firmware update

I have 5 ProCurve Switch 2510G-24 (J9279A) running Y.11.12, ROM N.10.02 needing firmware updates.  Are there any limitations with going straight to Y.11.52 or do I need to iterate through each of the revisions?  Presumably, I could flash the secondary to Y.11.52 and see if it boots successfully.  Thoughts?  Recommendations?

    Thanks,

    -PG

Latest Y.11.52 uses the same BootROM version of first Y.11.12 (Y.11.52 uses BootROM N.10.02 as Y.11.12 does) so you can safely update Y.11.12 directly to Y.11.52 (no automatic double reload will happen since BootROM will not be updated during the update of System software).

@parnassus Thx.  I jumped through several versions before just updating to straight to Y.11.52.  Appreciate your quick response.

I know that this is a really old question (about really old switches) but we still have a few and we can't get into the web interface because it requires a version of Java which we don't have available.  Is there any newer firmware for these switches than Y.11.52 that works with a more modern browser?

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions (besides a time-machine) for using the web interface on these switches?

    Thanks,
    Ari

Hello Ari, I confirm that Y.11.52 (20-05-2018) was the latest Y Software Build available for that EoS/EoL Switch SKU (J9279A ProCurve Switch 2510G-24). You can't expect anything newer due to its declared EoS/EoL status.

Now the real question: why you explicitly need a Web Interface access when such of a switch is very easily manageable via its CLI (through physical Console or via SSH/Telnet connections)?

    Hi Parnassus,

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured Y.11.52 was the latest, but when I search the HPE Networking Support Portal for J9280A it also shows U.11.67 so I was wondering if that firmware would work on the older J9280A, even though the Release Notes don't mention J9280A. The Release Notes says it supports "HPE 2510 48 Switch Series".

As for why I was looking for a GUI instead of the CLI, it is because the 400+ page manual is not easy to find things in. I was trying to see how to add console users, or change console user passwords and it wasn't immediately obvious how to do those things.

Thanks again for the prompt reply.
    Ari

That will not work. The letter (Y, U) stand for the hardware platform/architecture. Different letter means different platform and likely CPU/memory/etc are different, so the 'U' firmware is incompatible with switches/platforms that use the 'Y' firmware.
