We are looking to having wireless at our football field.  Admin wants to just install 1 AP so we can have wireless for 50-60 people.  I was wondering what everyone else is doing for wireless at the football stadiums.

We have a couple of different solutions deployed in our school district. We have 50 schools in the district and about 10 high schools. We typically put an AP in the pressbox for admin or broadcasting to use up top. All of our pressboxes have either a fiber connection or a point to point to get access and either an 8 or 12 port PoE switch. We don't have anything for field access but do deploy some older Aruba 275s off the side of the stadium since some schools have separate parking lots and need to take money via POS devices and need connection. Other schools we use AP 375s to accomplish the same thing. These aren't typically the best solutions since they are omni-directional but it seems to get the job done for what they need. There are also some remote areas like concession stands and ticketing booths that we use either Ubiquiti or Engenius Point to Points to get access to the building and then use a standard campus AP for wireless access. We typically deploy 315s with a power injector for this.

We opened a new stadium this fall and provided coverage in the press box, concessions, ticket booths.

    Hey Larry,

Over the summer, we upgraded the wireless at our football stadium. We added three external 575 APs. They're placed on the concession stand, the upper press box, and the high school. Each one points at the field from a different angle. We had to adjust the radio strength because the signal was so strong it reached nearby homes.

We also put a 635s AP in the concession stand and lower press box. Now, we have a strong signal throughout the entire stadium.

If Admin only approves one AP, I'd recommend an external 575 on the press box. You may need to adjust the radios to fit your needs. Though I think one ap will not be enough to cover users and pos systems. You really should have one dedicated at concessions, you don't want to have issues there.

Thanks for the reply  - we ended up putting up 1 675 on the press box but we pulled 4 cable to the press box so we can add if and when needed.
