General question:  I have to replace our AP-365s with Ap-635s.  Is there certain tasks that need to be done to remove the licenses from old APs, remove old APs from controller database and add new APs to ensure they receive a license?

    AP-325 or AP-365?

The AP-635 is an indoor only AP.

Disconnect the old AP from the network, plug the new AP in, nothing else required for licensing.  You can delete the old APs from the controller/MCR once they show as offline.

Thanks for the information.  We are replacing our 325s.  Installing 635s.   I assume I can remove the old APs from the controller database using the "clear gap-db" command?  Nothing else to do in regard to licenses?

    Hello,

you will need to make sure your controllers are using HPE Aruba Networking OS and HPE Aruba Networking Instant OS 8.9.0.0 or higher

We are currently running ArubaOS 8.10.0.7 LSR, planning to upgrade to 8.10.0.13.

Hey Peter, consider going to 8.10.0.14 since .14 is the latest and resolves quite a few issues.

Correct and correct.  The command clear gap-db should remove the offline APs and nothing further needed on licensing.

I don't know how close you are on AP licenses and if your plan to pre-provision AP's or not, but I'd suggest asking your Aruba rep for a block of temp AP licenses.  That way you'll always be compliant and not get any of those pesky licensing messages.  For me, I try to do pre-provisioning  so I can make sure AP's are already upgraded, named and placed in their  future AP group (and if using Airwave VisualRF, placed appropriately on the floorplan), limiting the possibilities of "in the field" OS update disruptions, especially during mounting.

also note that the mounting kits for the AP-325 and AP-635s  are different.

And be sure to have enough PoE power to power those beasts. PoE+ should in most cases be sufficient but check with PoE budget on the switches. Also ethernet ports on 635 are SmartRate up to 2.5G. 1G eth ports will not be able to really utilize those APs.

Gigabit is still not going to be an issue with the 630/650 APs, likelihood of a single AP exceeding Gigabit throughput is very low until we start looking at Wi-Fi 7.
