Controllerless Networks

I have 2  Aruba iap 225s that I need to reset to their factory settings. I was successful in doing so with two others, but these two will not allow me to reset.

 

I am holding paperclip on reset button, powering up the AP and it does not reset.

 

The other two I did the same for, after about 30 seconds I saw the instant SSID, I connected to this, made my changes and everything was good.

If there are any other IAPs on the same VLAN/subnet as these 225s, they will never broadcast "instant" and join the existing cluster.  Have you tried to bring them up on their own VLAN?

I thought resetting them to their factory defaults would force them to boot on a differenct subnet/VLAN?

 

My issue is these APs were configured by a third party, and I never to resolve configuration issues as they will not connect the way they were supposed to be setup.

They are still bound by the Campus LAN switching.  They cannot switch VLANs on a reset...they discover other IAPs that are already up and then just join the cluster.  This can be disabled in the virtual controller but it's an ease of use feature.

 

 

OK that makes sense. At any rate, I was able to get into the configs of these, the last two just took a bit longer to come back up after a reset.

 

 

i"m having the same issue, but it's not coming up.  I tried power up and reset.  It won't come up on the controller.  It is  ArubaOS (MODEL: 225), Version 6.3.1.0 (39345).  Anyone have any other suggestions?  I'm unable to console into it as it's in the ceilling.  Last resort, I can take it down to work on it if I have to.

When you say "having the same issue", what led  up to your issue?  That last post was 3 years ago...

What led up to the issue, is the Access point was taken down, and then put back up. It's kind of complicated, but anyway after putting it back up, it won't come back up on the controller. Sorry I didn't see where I could start a new post, and this looks like the same issue I am having. I can do show lldp neighbor on the cisco switch and see it. And when I look at the power inline, it's not consuming as much power as it should. , only 16.2 Watts, where the others consume 23.6 W.

Do you see the mac address consuming a dhcp lease?

 

If yes, type "show datapath session table <ip address of access point>" on the controller to see if it is sending traffic.

 

You can also type "show log system all" to see if that access point is not coming up because of some error.

 

You can also type "show ap database" to see if it has some flags.

 

Last resort, take it out of the ceiling and put a console cable to it.

I'm finally able to see it on the controller, and I get this error message:

 

Error programming AP [provision-ap reprovision ap-name "40:e3:d6:c3:bf:18"]: Can not reprovision AP with older image until it upgrades.

You should type "show ap image version" to see what ArubaOS code it has.  It could be in the middle of upgrading.

It keeps going down...

Does "show log system 50" tell you why it is going up and down?

It has stayed up now. It has an IP address but still doesn’t show up on the controller.

How do you know what IP address it got?

Type "show datapath session table <IP address of AP> on the controller command line to see if it is sending any traffic to the controller.

If you do not see any traffic it might be time for the console cable...

Okay.  I would type "show ap database" to see if the access point mac address has flags (the name of the AP would be the mac address).

 

I would also type "show log system all" to see if there are any references to that access point.
