Is there a simple way to restore the predefined firewall policies and roles, i.e. getting rid of all customizations or differences due to upgrades?

Maybe copy out "original.cfg" via tftp/scp/...

View in favorite editor and pretty much do a compare with "show running".

 

Or copy out both "original.cfg" and "default.cfg" and copy paste the default roles from original to default > upload to controller and reload if you can spare some downtime.

original.cfg looks like the original configuration after initial setup. That is from an old version and before I have installed pefng licenses. It's not useful for my purpose...

Thanks. Is that for arubaos 6.5.3.1?

It is not from 6.5.3.1.  It is a partial configuration of default roles and firewall policies that have not changed in years.
