  • 1.  Split two 7240XM controllers

We have two ARUBA 7240XM wireless controllers that are currently running as:

    #1 is in "Master" role

    #2 is in "Local" role

I want to split the two controllers so that they are independent from each other.  I will then direct traffic to each controller via the vlans.  Is there any documentation for this?  Do I only need to change them both to Local Role and change the vlans?  I changed the current Local Role controller to Master and it brought the whole system down.

You should consider the fact that you will have no Redundancy for the AP and Clients, if 1 Controller will Fail, because you have no redundancy, in the scenario you have requested. Addition to it i guess you are using a very old Aruba OS considering the terms Master and Local. In such Cases, you will have both controllers as Master Controller 1 and Master Controller 2. In such cases, you would need double the licenses, double the headache of configuration, etc.

If you move to Aruba OS 8.x or more, you will have new option called Standalone.
