    Hi Airheads,

Setting up Central/AP 535's for the first time . The Cisco system I inherited to replace had the AP cisco switchports set to a vlan . Don't think this is correct and am going to Trunk the switchports . Is it the best procedure to Trunk the switchports for all the AP's so they can route all the vlans on the cisco network

    Thanks for reading

yes generally when you have Instant APs that are managed by Aruba Central and you want different VLANs for various clients that connect, then you need to configure  VLAN trunking on the switches ans allow the VLAN IDs that you require.
Remember the Instant APs are not routers.
the default gateways for each of those VLANs will do the routing.

Where did they mention Instant APs?
If you have Campus APs using a tontroller, trinking is not needed or used. Data traffic goes through a GRE tunnel to the controller which is trunked to the VLans.

the IAP reference was due to "Central"  but in any case if the question is in reference to controller based deployment, you are absolutely right.

Thx  for the replies , just got back into the office

So trunking just the AP's that are virtual controllers is the best practice or trunking all AP's

You would need to trunk all APs, because centrally-managed instant APs put traffic directly onto the switched infrastructure:  They require a tagged VLAN for user traffic that is not on the management subnet.
