As I understand it, 8.10 is deemed a LSR (Long Supported Release) where as 8.12 is a standard release (which has newer features, but risks going EOL quickly [this can be sometimes six months or less]. All depends on your environment and how mission critical your infrastructure is and how quickly you need new functions vs. long term supportability.
