  • 1.  VSF Stack Firmware upgrade

    Posted Sep 26, 2023 06:55 AM

    Hello all,

We have a customer with 2930F switches, they are stacked in 4 stacks of 4 with VSF. The switch stacks are dual homed to a a paid of 3810M switches.

Their servers and storage connect to one of the VSF stacks, the NICs of the server are connected between 2 different switches in an LACP truck for redundancy.

Is it possible to upgrade the firmware one switch at a time instead of rebooting the entire stack as the server need to remain connected to at least one switch.

The switches are managed through Central.

    Hi Jason

unfortunately, in a stack you only have one control plane and therefore a reboot of all members simultaneously is required for a firmware update to succeed. The "problem" you have can be addressed by using Aruba's higher level switches such as the 8300 series where you have VSX (a clustering kind of thing) which is capable of in-service firmware updates.
