That is great - thank you, just the description I needed.

The client would enable Wi-Fi calling on their device, while connected to the Wi-Fi the device would attempt a DNS lookup based on the carrier. That lookup gets snooped by the Wi-Fi infrastructure and then the ALG will take action on the session.

Ok thanks, I will look at that. Just so I understand what's supposed to be happening here - these patterns are lookups that the clients do on their own carrier before connecting a WiFi call, is that right? So we need to cover as many major UK carriers as we can?

Start with the defaults in the documentation, you might have to do some discovery to find the DNS patterns based on your particular carrier and location.

Ah thank you, so in theory call quality could be affected. I don't suppose you know of a list of these DNS patterns do you? I see there are some default pre-configured patterns listed at the link you posted.

Traffic prioritization. Without the DNS patterns the traffic can get treated as best effort rather than tagged as voice.

Subject: Wi-Fi Calling
Hello,
I'm reviewing our current config for Wi-Fi Calling, as far as I can tell it is working, 'show ucc client' shows lots of entries. But I don't really understand the need for DNS patterns - we only have one configured (and actually on our other cluster we don't have any). But as I say, things _seem_ to be working. Could anyone explain what these are used for and what the effect of not having them configured is please?
Thanks
Guy
