Reference Design Engineer

The Aruba Reference Design Engineering (RDE) team is seeking a writer/engineer to join a team defining and documenting the Aruba deployment methodologies in Aruba’s Validated Reference Design (VRD) series of books. As a reference design engineer, you will be responsible for creating and documenting deployment methodologies and best practices in a series of related guides which are used by Aruba and partner SEs, as well as customer engineers. Working on VRDs involves working closely with a cross functional team including field SEs, partners, customers, development and support engineers, QA, product management, technical marketing, training, and the Aruba customer engineering (ACE) team. These guides are a part of a series, and are typically around 100 pages each, with each engineer producing one per quarter.


  • Develop and document Aruba’s best practices in written documentation
  • Work hands on in the lab configuring equipment for screen/config captures
  • Work with product management and QA to identify scaling and functionality tests needed to inform design decisions
  • Review material with multiple cross functional teams
  • Work with outside contractors on copyedit, layout, and graphic design
  • Provide technical training cross-training to relevant groups as needed
  • Deliver webinars to internal and external customers, as well as present at customer and partner events


  • 7-10 years enterprise networking experience, experience with 802.11 and security a big plus
  • 3-5 years writing experience, with the ability to create large amounts of material in a short amount of time
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical field
  • Excellent oral, written, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to explain complex networking technologies in ways that make them accessible to a broad audience
  • Must be a flexible self-starter who can ramp up with new technologies quickly and can adapt to a growing and evolving team
  • Imaginative, motivated, and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Must be able to succeed with minimal resources and minimal supervision
