COTD: Provision a RAP5WN for 3G without IT intervention

This article will make better sense if you read a previous article by one of my colleagues here on how to Zero-Touch provision a RAP5/5WN with 3G.

At Aruba, all remote employees use either a RAP5WN, a RAP2WG or a combination of both. When an employee needs another RAP5WN or RAP2WG, he just gives IT his MAC address and he just provisions it to the remote access controller's URL. To set the 3G parameters, the employee would typically call IT when his RAP is connected and tell them what modem 3G modem he has, so it can be provisioned from the controller. The article shows you can easily provision a 3G card on a new RAP5WN, but it does not tell you that you do not have to have that card connected at the time.

This means you can save your 3g settings, provision the RAP and have it connect over broadband ethernet. Later when you want to bring it up via 3G, the settings are already saved and will work.
