Few AP-535s are coming up with 'i" flag in the Controller

Aug 03, 2020 12:26 PM

Problem:

Out of 1000 APs connected to the Controller, few AP-535s alone were not broadcasting any SSID. The Controller had adequate AP licenses, AP-535s in the network on the same Controller were broadcasting the SSID fine and there were no profile errors, VLAN mismatch, etc. All the APs are were connected to the similar HP switches.

Diagnostics:
  • Looking at the 'show ap database', '2i' flag was seen for the APs that were not broadcasting SSID.

  • When checking "ap debug system-status logs", it was found the APs with '2i' flag was not getting enough power(AT) or failed to negotiate LLDP power.

  • For the working APs, confirmed they were receiving adequate power:

Solution
  • To resolve such issue, ensure the switch to which the APs are connected supports POE+ power.
  • In other words, the switch must be POE-AT complaint and POE+ must be enabled in the switch configuration as needed.
  • If the APs are powered up using POE injector, ensure it provides POE+ power.
  • AP can also be operated under DC or 802.3at/802.3bt.

APs that were seen with 2i started operating fine after receiving AT power.
