How do I find out the real EIRP of a radio after compensating for antenna gain and regulatory limitation?

Question:  How do I find out the real EIRP of a radio after compensating for antenna gain and regulatory limitation?

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba controllers and ArubaOS versions 3.0 and later.

We cannot change the gain of the antenna to the decimal value. This value cannot be this specific because it needs to compensate for connectors and lighting arrestors.

To see the actual gain, issue the following command:

show ap tech-support ap-name <name of the ap>

In the ap tech-support, look for the following command:

show ap debug driverlog ap-name <name of the ap>

Examples

The problem with this driver log is that if the AP has been up for a long time and the Radio is stable (that is, there have been no changes), then the lines you are looking for may be missing.

Example 1

(Aruba) #show ap debug driver-log ap-name french-lab | include Tx

14 0.4058 wifi0: Tx Power (Config: 15.0dBm, Set: 15.0dBm), Actual EIRP 19.0dBm, Max EIRP 23dBm, TPC Red 4

29 0.42058 wifi1: Tx Power (Config: 15.0dBm, Set: 15.0dBm), Actual EIRP 16.5dBm, Max EIRP 20dBm, TPC Red 4

Example 2

(ArubaTelford) #show ap debug driver-log ap-name hunal | include Tx

(Aruba)

The first example returns a couple of examples, but the second example does not. The driver log for ap-name hunal no longer contains any reference to power settings.
