How does connection-type defined in Clustering AOS 8.0?

Q:

How does connection-type defined in Clustering AOS 8.0?

A:

Below are the connection types for the controllers which is a part of clustering in AOS 8.0.

1. L2-connected.

2. L3-connected.

If all the Vlans are shared across all the controllers in the cluster then it will be defined as L2-connected.

If all the Vlans are NOT shared across all the controllers in the cluster then it will be defined as L3-connected.

Example:

In the below case, vlan 2160 is NOT shared across the vlan hence the connection-type is defined as L3-connected.

In order to have hitless failover, the controllers in the cluster should be L2-connected. It's always recommended to share all the user vlan across the controllers in the cluster.
