In ArubaOS 5.0, does changing the AP forwarding mode cause an AP to reboot?

Jul 05, 2014 06:53 AM

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba APs and ArubaOS 5.0 or later.

In Aruba OS versions before 5.0, campus and remote access points are rebooted if the AP forwarding mode in the VAP profile is changed. For example, if the forwarding mode is changed from tunnel to bridge, APs provisioned with the reconfigured VAP will be rebooted.

In Aruba OS 5.0 and later versions, changing the forwarding mode will not reboot the AP. This enhancement greatly increases the stability of the wireless services by maintaining the running state of access points during this configuration change.

Note: Aruba Networks highly recommends that configuration changes be only performed in scheduled maintenance windows so as to minimize any impact on the wireless clients and services.
