What are the RF planning tools? What are the requirements for RFPlan?

Jul 02, 2014 05:12 PM

Product and Software: This article applies to all existing ArubaOS versions (2.5 and 3.x).

The two types of RF planning tools are: controller built-in RF plan and offline RF plan tool.

The built-in RF plan tool, also called the online RF plan tool, can be accessed from the controller WebUI with your web browser.

The offline RF plan tool is a Windows application and it needs to be installed to your PC's hard drive to run it. You can download it from the Aruba support site at: http://support.arubanetworks.com/

Java Runtime Environment is needed to run the tool. It's included in the package and is installed automatically during the setup process.

Other requirements to run the offline RF plan tool are:

  •  Windows XP SP2
  •  Intel Pentium4 3.0GHz processor or any equivalent
  •  50MB minimum disk space
  •  Color monitor and 16-bit video card with 1024 x 768 screen resolution

The Current release as if now is "VisualRF Plan 7.7    build 440" and it is compatible with Windows 7 and  8.

The latest release is a 64 bit release and works best with 64 bit OS. However if we have a 32 bit machine, we can install this package and use this in compatibility mode.

NOTE: We have seen issues with IE browser, when we download this utility using the Internet Explorer browser, the extension changes from ".EXE to .NET".

We can either change the extension to ".EXE" or use a different browser to download.
