What configuration changes can I make in ArubaOS to reduce issues caused by TRANE HVAC wireless thermostat management systems?

Jul 02, 2014 09:37 PM

Product and Software: This article applies to all ArubaOS versions that have been deployed with the TRANE HVAC management system.

The 2.4 GHz spectrum is a very crowded space, and the TRANE HVAC clients operate in that space (2.4 GHz ZigBee). Clients will experience issues with performance and connectivity.

We can improve the user experience by making some configuration changes in ArubaOS. The majority of the clients should be moving over to 802.11abgn NICs and will be able to take advantage of the Aruba feature set.

In each room, find a wireless thermostat with the TRANE logo.

ArubaOS Profile Changes

1) Change to "rf dot11g-radio-profile": "Non 802.11 Interference Immunity" should be set to "Level-3" and higher if it is recommended by a support engineer.

2) Change to "wlan virtural-ap" profile: Enable band-steering to move clients away from the interference source.

3) Change to "wlan ssid-profile": Clip the 802.11g rates (36, 48, and 54) to reduce the amount of retransmisions.
