Why does my 7200 controller not have network connectivity after loading configuration from an old non-7200 controller?

Environment  : This article applies to 7200 series controllers and AOS version or higher.


Even after restoring the configuration from the old controller to a 7200 series controller, it does not have connectivity to the rest of the network.


The port numbering scheme in a 7200 series controller is different from the scheme used in old controllers. The 7200 uses slot/module/port instead. All other previous controller platforms (800, 2400, 3000 series, 600 series, 5000 and 6000 series) use a slot/port numbering scheme.



In order to get the network connectivity back, you would need to remove the existing port-to-vlan mapping if any in the restored configuration and map correct VLANs to correct ports again with proper port numbering schemes from the new controller's WebUI or CLI.
