How to specify antenna gain for IAP's with external antenna?

Jul 02, 2014 06:19 PM

Product and Software: This article applies to Aruba Instant Access Points (IAP's) with external antenna running Aruba InstantOS.

Follow steps to configure antenna gain for IAP with external antenna:

  1. Login to the Instant WebUI.

  2. In the WebUI, navigate to the Access Point tab, select the specific access point and then click Edit.

  3. In the Edit Access Point window, select External Antenna tab to configure the antenna gain value.

This option is available only for access points (IAP-134/92) with external antenna support.

       4. Enter the antenna gain values (dBm) for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and click OK

Note:  Additional attenuation between the device and antenna may have to be measured or calculated

The following formula can be used to calculate the EIRPlimit related RF power based on selected antennas

(antenna gain) and feeder loss (Coaxial Cable loss):

EIRP = Tx RF Power (dBm) +GA (dB) - FL (dB)
