APs disappearing from network

I have a mixed network of 205 & 305 APs.  All was well until yesterday - the 305s have disappeared from the Instant dashboard.  When I look at the APs, what is described as the Left hand LED is Green flashing, but the Right hand LED is off.....according to the install guide this suggests either the device is powered off (its not because the Green LED is flasing) or both radios are disabled.

I tried removing the PoE cable to effectively reboot one of the APs and its still the same!

    Any ideas?

What version of instant are you running?

Were there any recent changes in your infrastructure? (upgrades, etc).

They were there on Wednesday 1st November, but not there on Thursday 2nd.

There has been no infrastructure changes, and the 205s seem to be working....have re-booted one with no improvement...not sure how to address this :(

What version of Instant OS are you running?

How are these access points powered?

Instant has just decided to inform me that the 3 missing APs:

"AP register fail because of image mismatch"

Odd - I've not performed an upgrade this week....or last week.....

Now how do I persuade these APs to get to the right image?

What is the current IAP image version?

    Hi Colin

The version of the IAPs I can access is 6.5.1.0-4.3.1.2_58595.  There has been no upgrade taking place this week, so I don't understand why the 305 APs have got an image mismatch.

The missing APs must still be on:6.5.1.0-4.3.1.2, as purchased.  But I have no way of verifying this as I cannot access them.

    Thanks

Please SSH into the existing Virtual controller and type "show log system 50".  See if the logs have the correct time on them.  If they don't that might give us a clue.

Try SSH into one of the APs that are not up (you probably cannot get into the GUI), and type "show log system 50" to see if the time is correct on that as well.  Also type "show version" to see what version of OS it is running.

    Master IAP#show log system

    recv_image_check, 1761: AP class not match, Master-25, Slave-30.

    Image_sync_via_isc

send_image_mismatch url (ap classCentaurus) to 192.168.20.101

The above log should show up if there is an image mismatch.

    I can see

    "Cli| recv_image_Check:mac address, version-6.5.4.3-6.5.4.3_61959, ccode_idx-255."

    " Cli| Image_sync_via_iscAP Class not match, Master-30, Slave-48"

Your NTP (port UDP 123) traffic is being blocked to the internet somehow.  If the time is incorrect, your APs cannot securely connect to the cloud to obtain their software image, because they thing the certificate is not valid.  Make sure NTP traffic is not being blocked to the internet, and then try rebooting one of the APs with the wrong image and see if it gets the correct time and then the correct image.

The down AP I connected to seems to think its January 1970!  How do I re-set the date?

The version is displayed as 6.5.4.3.

Is there a way to roll out a new version via SSH?

You can roll out a new version via SSH by:

    IAP#upgrade-image  http://d2vxf1j0rhr3p0.cloudfront.net/fwfiles/image name

image name for 305 should be ArubaInstant_Ursa_6.5.4.3_61959

however i doubt this will work for you, because of the same reason colin suggested.

NTP and internet acces should work first. A rough test will be pinging pool.ntp.org although NTP is on UDP ports.. But this will test your DNS and internet connectivity.
