Aruba 315 Instant AP Configuration
10-03-2019 03:58 AM
Now we are trying to configure Aruba 315 IAP (3 Nos) and Aruba 2930F 24G PoE Switch.
AP Details (3 Nos)
Model 315, Firmware- 22.214.171.124
Model- Aruba 2930F 24G PoE+ (JL261A)
Access Point Management IP- Vlan12 (AP1- 172.16.13.26, AP2- 172.16.13.27, Virtual Controller- 172.16.13.25)
Access Point management ip & Virtual Controller is mapped as Vlan 22 (Refer attached document).
Access point connected on port 1, 2 on PoE Switch. and untagged Vlan 22 on Port 1-2 of the switch. (using the following command:- Vlan22, untagged ethernet port 1-2).
we have configured multiple SSID with different vlan (Example:- Office- Vlan 15, Guest- vlan16) and working fine.
Also able to reach both access point & virtual controller (ping /web access) management ip.
we have noticed the following:
1. when we powered off the One AP (Which holds virtual controller role /master ap), virtual controller IP (172.16.13.25) is not reachable from the network.
once we reboot all AP we were able to reach /access virtual controller IP.

If you have 3 access points, they all should have their own IP address (DHCP is fine for that). Example: AP1- 172.16.13.126, AP2- 172.16.13.63, AP3- 172.16.13.78 (or assigned: .26/.27/.28).
Then if you configure the Virtual Controller IP as (example) 172.16.13.25, the access point that takes the virtual controller role will take that IP in addition to its own IP. It is recommended (in most cases) to let the Instant AP cluster itself allocate a virtual controller. And the virtual controller IP (configuration) should not overlap with the access point IPs or other IPs on your network.
This video may help with an example and a better understanding.
