We've moved to Aruba Instant and an Aruba Virtual Controller in the past few months. With the recent Aruba Product Security Advisory  ARUBA-PSA-2017-007, we're looking to upgrade the firmware. This is the first time we've done this on Aruba Instant.

We are currently on version 6.5.3.1, and we see there is the new version available 6.5.4.3-6.5.4.3_61877.

We have 23 APs on 3 floors. We are wondering if we click Upgrade Now, how long would the upgrade take?  Is wireless unavailable during the upgrade? What is the impact on end users? We appreciate all suggestions and guidance. Thank you!

Do you have the same type of APs?

Are you managing the APs using AirWave ?

    We have 19 IAP 205's and 4 325's.

    We are not using AirWave.

It will depend on the network on how long the AP takes to download the firmware afterwhich reboot.

Is wireless unavailable during the upgrade?
Wireless for the AP which is rebooting will not be able to serve clients

What is the impact on end users?

Lesser serviceable access point usage for users.

With a physical controller on AOS 8, I believe you will be able to allow live upgrade with no impact on operational network.

E.g access points with no clients will upgrade.

Or alternatively, I believe you will be able to see the usage of users to access points, you may like to consider to manually upgrade access points which are not serving any clients, considering that airwave and a mobility controller is not available.
