    No.

The only licenses for Instant are:

Aruba Central - cloud management licensed by AP

AirWave - on-prem management licensed by AP

Controller PEF-V - licensed by controller for advanced IAP-VPN deployments (RBAC)

None of these are required for IAP functionality.

It's not a required license. You only need this for the IAP-VPN architecture if you are doing advanced role-based access. (It is a controller license)

So you mean I can use RBAC with instant without any license?

Hi guys, I am trying to configure role base access but it is not woking.

This is a guest WLAN using inernal captive portal. As in the attached screenshots, I configured a role asignment rules so that if username begins with "t", it will be mapped to a certain role.

But when we test, all users are mapped to the default role, including those who begins with t.

I also noticed a strange behaviour, that when I click on the "security" tap then move to the "access" tap , the role asignment rules disapears totally! (attached the second screenshot"

Hi guys, it finally worked, I read in another community post that role based will only work with external authentication server.

I did confgured a RAIDIUS server instead of the internal server, configured my RADIUS server to return the attribute "user-name" as success reply, then on the IAP confgured a role asignment rule to match on a specifc username and asign the needed role to it.

Yes. RBAC is built into the instant platform and can be used without anything additional. The PEF-V license is for controllers and is only needed in certain scenarios to create a tunnel between an IAP cluster and a controller.
