I haven't foudn a way to rename an instant from its mac name. It lets you do everything, down to clicking the rename button, but then tells you the AP is in read only mode.

    Everything is set to read/write.

    Instant 3.4.

If you click on the AP and go to the manage tab at the top, then you should be able to change it.

Not sure where you are in the interface, but I've never even saw a tab labled "manage."

In the instant config, i can click on the ap, it gives me a name box, I put the name in it, save and apply, but the only place that name displays is in the access point list in the instant config. I want it to show up elsewhere.

    Mismatches for VC : VirtualController

    Change to VC configuration

yes. the APs report that they are bing managed by airwave and won't allow local changes.

In Instant Config tab -> go into Access Points list -> select access point -> under General tab is a field for updating the Name -> save and apply.

Do not confuse with the Name field under Settings.  This field is for name of the VC.

That is the vc, which I had already renamed. Now we're trying to rename the APs so they are relative.

Naviage to the Group to which the IAP is provisioned.

    Capture.PNG

Click on the name of the AP ( mac address is the name here)

This will take you to per AP setting.

Let me know if if this is not what you need.

    Been there, done that.

the ap shows renamed in the ap list, but also shows as a mismatch.

I want the ap name to show up in airwave.

That can be fixed by doing an Import settings from the modify device page.

Naviagte to the specific group and click on modify devices.

    Capture.PNG

Select the devices and scroll down the page to find the "Import Settings" option. once we click it, the correct name will be updated

    [Mod note: removed additional spacing]

It's been brought to my attention that this is a known issue and the defect is DE16547.  I'm pushing for a fix to be included in the next 7.7 patch release (tentatively early January for 7.7.8).

Could it be that this issue still exists in 7.7.9??! I went through the steps provided in this thread and wasn't able to change the Name of an IAP 115 in Airwave 7.7.9!

What version of firmware is your IAP running?

  • 16.  RE: How do you rename an IAP in Airave 7.7.6?

    IAP-115 is running 6.3.1.2-4.0.0.3_41784

one more comment: after 20 minutes of running around through the airwave gui the IAP got finally renamed... somehow weird...

That timing seems to be expected.  It may just be due to how AirWave communicates with IAPs to push changes.  Here's an example of the interaction:

    1) VC checks into AirWave, sees no changes

    2) AirWave has setting change to rename IAP

    3) VC checks into AirWave, sees there is a pending change

    4) VC pushes the change

    5) VC updates AirWave

    6) AirWave runs an audit to confirm changes

This timeline of events can be seen in /var/log/ap/<ap id of AP having name change>/event.log (may also want to see the VC's event log as well).  It is not an instantaneous change, so timing will vary based on when the VC checks into AirWave.

ok, thanks for the hint. I will check the event log to verify that... Note: saw nothing useful during a 'name change test' in the event.log...

As a newbie I find this quite uncomfortable - what happened to me is that I most likely made several changes of the AP name because of that. This leads to an 'inconsistency' (yes, I call it like this because the GUI should catch such changes and inconsistencies in my opinion) before the config was deployed to the AP.

Hope Airwave 8.0 will be more user friendly...

By the way: when changing the AP Name in the APs/Devices tab I still got a red error message: "The action is not applicable to the following devices: IAP115_ZH1-XX:XX:XX"

    What the heck?
