Thanks in advance for any help.

I have an HP wireless setup that we are going to be replacing with IAP's soon. There is a single VLAN setup for the wireless that the AP's and clients are on today and will continue to be on. I had put two IAP's in months ago and they were operating fine co-existing with the HP setup.

Recently we made some changes to the network and removed one of the IAP's because it was needed elsewhere. It then came to our attention that the IAP that remained was not functioning. It will just reboot over and over again with the ethernet link never coming up. If we remove it from the network and put it on another test network at our office it comes up just fine. We have cleared the config multiple times and set it back up again from scratch but when we place it back on the production network it will not bring up the ethernet link.

Changes made to the network were moving from a /24 to a larger subnet and the IP range itself changed as well. The HP's and clients are having no issues functioning on this network after the changes.

The other change was that the HP controller died and was replaced with the same model albeit a newer firmware. I have a hunch that perhaps it has some kind of rogue detection and protection, but I can't seem to see anything like that in it's interface.

All of the PoE switches are HP's and the IAP's were fine on them before. I can see in the switch that it's delivering power to the IAP and the IAP is indeed coming on and trying to boot. It just doesn't seem to be able to bring up the ethernet connection. I have pasted the boot up output from the IAP below. This is after it was configured on the test network and then brought back onto the production network.

It is hard to say why Eth0 is not coming up.   Have you checked the basics:  bad ethernet cable, port config on the HP switch, errors in the HP logs, disable STP, etc? Without an active link and IP address the IAP will reboot.  I believe we changed that behavior in later releases of SW..........you are running v.3.1 and the current is v.3.4.0.1 and v.3.4.0.2 might be released tomorrow.

As to why the one IAP worked before moving the other IAP?  It is possible that the one IAP was able to connect to the other via wireless Mesh.  Our dual-radio IAPs support Mesh and it is on by default such that if it does not have an active Eth link it will join another wired IAP via the Mesh.

    Marcus,

    Thank you for the response.

We have tried two different switches that are on that VLAN. Both are the same model however. Both exhibit the same behavior.

STP is disabled and there aren't any errors in the swtiches indicating a link issue. Multiple cables have been used between the two switches as well.

I will grab the latest firmware and see if it does anything for us.

The AP is not getting an IP address.  what is providing DHCP? does a PC in the same port get an address?

There is a Windows DHCP server on another subnet providing DHCP to that VLAN. Yes, all other devices are operating fine with addresses from the DHCP server on that vlan.

I don't believe DHCP is the issue here as the AP never gets an ethernet link light and the swtich never shows a link either. The ethernet light on the AP will blink on for less than a second and go right back of again several times throughout the boot process, but never stays on long enough to do anything.

you mentioned above that "If we remove it from the network and put it on another test network at our office it comes up just fine" this tells me it is not the AP. This would be my process.

    - to rule out a power issue on the switch use a power injector.

    - if problem is still there w/ injector problem points to the switch port config.

    - set the switch port up as the one on the "other test network"

    - reset AP and configure port as trunk untagged on the VLAN that has DHCP.
