I am a little new to this, so please bear with me if I don't use the proper terms or names.

I purchased a used IAP-205H to add to my setup. Currently have three IAP-215. I have reset the IAP-205H several times. The cat6 cable from my switch is connected to the E0 port on the back of the IAP-205H. Using an external DC power supply, not POE. When I plug in the power plug, the IAP-205H the system status led blinks green for a while and eventually turns red.

The IAP-205H is pulling an ip (192.168.0.86). When I try to access that ip from a browser, I get redirected to the Instant OS web page at 192.168.0.8, the ip of the preferred master AP.

What do I have to do to get this IAP-205H to join my network?

What version of Instant is the IAP-215 on?

The 205H is end of life and will not support anything beyond InstantOS 6.5.x.x https://www.arubanetworks.com/support-services/end-of-life/  That means it cannot join a cluster with 8.4.0.5, unfortunately

Hi - a follow up question as I am in a similar situation. Should a 205H be able to join the cluster if the 215(s) are also running the older 6.5.x.x firmware?

    Thanks.

    Oh, okay, Unfortunate for me.

Can the IAP-205H still be used without joining my existing cluster?
Is there an equivalent, newer product that can be used? I am looking for an AP that has local ethernet connectivity.

Absolutely, but it would have to be on its own layer 2 VLAN, otherwise it will try to join the cluster.  If you configure it as a standalone, it can operate on the same layer 2 VLAN as the 215s:  https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/Instant_42_WebHelp/InstantWebHelp.htm?_ga=1.43038629.1615771646.1440445030#UG_files/IAP_maintenance/ConvertingIAPtoStandalone.htm?Highlight=standalone

    Everything is working great!

I disconnected the three 215s, plugged in the 205H and was able to log in to the Instant OS and set up the IAP-205H as a standalone. Got it updated to the latest firmware and set up a couple of networks.

Plugged the three 215s back in and they are all up and running as well.

Thank you so much for all your help.
