    Hello together,


    we are using multiple AP-515 access points in IAP mode for our site surveys. They are all configured in standalone mode and their channel and transmit power gets assigned statically.


    After turning on the APs, they seem to reduce the transmit power after a while significantly. Our guess is that they somehow reduce the transmit power on purpose, like falling back to AP green mode since no data traffic is transmitted. All AP-515 we have are affected so far, they are powered via PoE+ (802.3at). Our older models AP-315 and AP-325 are not affected.

     

    The issue does not seem to occure when clients during our site survey are connected to the AP.


    Did someone face a similar issue? It would be great to know if the issue happens on purpose and if we can disable a possible energy saving mode via config.

     

    Tested with following firmware images:

    - 8.5.0.10

    - 8.6.0.5

    What is showing you the reduction in power, your site survey setup or the actual access point?  Do you have to min and max transmit power set to the same for the AP?

    Our site survey showed the reduction in power, we checked the received RSSI values with different clients. It is similar to the values we get with our Ekahau Sidekick from the same physical range.

     

    Since we don't use ARM and configured the channels and transmit power statically, we didn't see a change via the command "show ap arm history" earlier. Is it possible that our static config gets ignored and ARM is prefered?

     

    I will power up an AP-515 now and try to understand what is happening. Maybe the console output tells me what the AP is doing.

    The history would tell you if there is a change, even if you have it configured statically.

     

    You could type "show log system" to see if your AP had any system issues.

    "show log wireless" to see if it had any radio issues.

     

    How often does it happen?  When it happens, try to obtain the tech support so it can be analyzed.  I don't have any guesses right now.
