Whilst the AP535s and IAP325s were upgraded (from 8.6.0.5) to the 8.7.0.0 firmware (controller-less setup), the IAP225's went offline and cannot be restarted again. Also a manual reset of (some) of the IAP225 didn't help.

Do we know if the IAPs 225 are supported by the 8.7.0.0 firmware? And how do I get the IAP 225 back online in a working configuration with the AP535s and IAPs 325s?

8.7 does not support the AP-22x APs

You would have to downgrade to an 8.6 version to be at the latest supported across your APs.

OK time to replace then the IAP225s over time...out of curiosity: where do I find the firmware compatibility matrix? I searched for it but couldn't find it really..

You can easily find the latest code to run on the Aruba Support Portal (ASP). You can then filter out your AP model and you will see what version it can run.
