    Posted Sep 16, 2016 04:54 AM

    Hi Guys,

I have an Aruba IAP-225RW (Factory state) that was running firmware version 6.3.1.4.0.0.5_43022 and just upgraded the firmware to the latest version of 6.5.0.0-4.3.0.0_56428.

After the reboot I can see the SSID as "instant" but when trying to connect via multiple browsers and/or devices to "https://instant.arubanetworks.com:4343 to start configuring the IAP, I keep getting error messages stating the site can't be reached.

Any help is resolving this or advice how to maybe load an older version firmware via console access will be much appreciated.

Nothing has changed on the network since the upgrade, only the firmware.

On another note, the power LED remains amber instead of green after the upgrade. Have rebooted the IAP manually but power button still remains amber.

That amber color means you are using standard POE. Can you SSH into the access point?

There is an issue with the firmware update causing the IAP225 power LED going from green to amber.  I've had 225s for several years running along just fine on our Cisco's.  The latest firmware hit and most of these turned amber.

Cisco 2960S 48 LPS-L switches mainly, but even happened on our HP1920s.

Chris Wagner, any details on that issue?

At the moment 5 out of the six IAP's have GREEN power LED's.

The 6th which is now the VC has the amber Power LED.

I need to schedule a change request to upgrade the firmware once I have completed reviewing the Release notes and will update this thread again. (Thanks for all the advice so far)

    Hi Colin:

    My pleasure...

    Mixed IAP environment... 105s, 215s, 225s.

Recently downloaded update from Maintenance > Firmware > Check For New Version.  The version pulled down was 6.4.4.8-4.2.4.2_56164.

All 215s and 225s have been working with all green power LEDs for the last few years with all other firmware updates.  Likewise, our 105s have been doing their thing.

With this update, the 3 225s connected to our two Cisco 2960-S LPS-L stacked switches decided to show amber power LEDs.  Two connected to our HP 1920 PoE switch exhibit the same behavior.  Two others connected to the 1920 do not.  One 225 connected to an 8 port HP 1920 kept its green power LED.  The 215s connected to the HP1920 remained green.

To make sure there wasn't a strange setting or anything in place in our IAP configuration, after hours I disconnected all IAPs from the Cisco switch.  With an IAP225 in hand connected by a short 6 foot CAT6, I factory reset the unit.  As expected, the unit reset to where "instant" was the only SSID and all our settings were removed.  Factory default with updated firmware.  I was hoping to see the power LED stay green to indicate maybe a setting in our IAP environment was the casue, but that wasn't the case.  The factory default IAP225 still came up with the amber LED.

Although I've been running Cisco Firmware 15.0.2-SE(8) for a long while, I thought I'd see about going to the latest suggested firmware... 15.0.2-SE(10).  There was no change.

The HPE 1920-24G-PoE+ (180W) Switch JG925A are also interesting.  It's the only spot where a few of the 225s are coming up as expected (green LED).  Notice I say... a few... not all.  Whereas before, all came up green.  I should also note the two 215s I have connected to these are green.

Firmware versions on the HP1920s are r1113 and r1112.  I think r1112 is the current version available on the web.  The unit with r1113 was a warranty replacement.  I'd have to check to see which of the switches the IAP225s that are showing amber are connected.

The HPE 1920-8G-PoE+ (65W) Switch JG921A, running firmware version r1108 runs the IAP225 with green power LED.

I'd like to note that other than static IP address assignment, admin password, and fiber port link aggregation, these HP switches are pretty much running with out of the box configuration.

I hope that helps with environment, but everything was cruising right along until I updated to firmware 6.4.4.8-4.2.4.2_56164.  So you'd have to make a real good case that it's on our side.  :)

Do your switches say how much power is drawn on each port?

Capture.PNGHere is a screenshot.  The highlighted APs are 225s.  (EDIT:  I noticed the post did not make the image a thumbnail.  The power is 15.4.)  The others are 105s.  IAP225 documentation calls for unrestricted mode (PoE) at 17W, so I get why they may be going into restricted mode.  However, what has changed in this firmware to where that's all the power available from the Cisco is not being realized?

I've resolved the issue on the Cisco and HP Switches.

For the Cisco 2960S, I opened a telnet session to enable LLDP.  # lldp run

It's interesting this wasn't on before and the 225s had enough power.

For the HP 1920 switch, I removed both network cables to switch from the 225s that were showing amber power LED.  In one switch that has 2 215s and 2 225s, I plugged in one of our trouble makers.  Power LED stayed green.  I then plugged the other network cable back in to the same switch and it, too, stayed green.  So now I have 5 IAPs in one switch and one in the other.  I'll need to look closer at this, but the issue went away... and I can't explain it...

Nothing more to see here... move along...

    H Everyone,

Just to add again. We have two sites across London. One site has 40 x IAP's (225-RW) and the other site has 6 x IAP225-RW)

I upgraded the firmware last night to version 6.5.0. (Latest)

All 46 x IAP's now have the amber Power LED illuminated.

Any idea what can cause this since Power LED was green PRIOR to upgrade.

What is the exact code that you upgraded to?

    What is your country code?

SSH into the VC and type "show log system" and "show log driver" and see if there is anything important

Nothing in the logs jumps out to say there's an issue I am afraid.

On one of the IAP's the ETH0 LED has gone out completely however IAP is functioning 100%

Type "show ap bss-table" to see if anything is being broadcast.

Well your SSIDs are being broadcasted.

Please look at the installation guide to see what the LEDs mean here:  https://support.arubanetworks.com/Documentation/tabid/77/DMXModule/512/Command/Core_Download/Default.aspx?EntryId=14676

Also, did you mean to use 80mhz channels?
