Hello everyone, the IAP305 and IAP325 virtual controllers I am using have recently upgraded the 8.x firmware.
There are a lot of retries in errors during use (retries in is 0 when running 6.5.x firmware). The channel and power settings of the 6.5.x and 8.x firmware are the same. What is the cause of this?

what  exact version are you running?

The version currently in use is Aruba Instant 6.5.4.6

    6.5.x Tested version

    Aruba Instant 6.5.2.0

    Aruba Instant 6.5.3.1

    Aruba Instant 6.5.4.6

The retries in error value for these versions is usually 0.

    8.x Tested version

    Aruba Instant 8.3.0.6

    Aruba Instant 8.5.0.1

    Aruba Instant 8.5.0.2

These versions of retries in error values are very high

    there could be various reasons,

are the clients experiencing the retries the same clients on the 6.5.x IAPs?

which radio are the client connected to? 2.4 or 5.?

what is the chanel util for the radios?

have you enabled clientmatch on both the versions (6.5.x and 8.x)?

The same client does not have a retries in error on 6.5.x.
    The connected Radio is 5Ghz.

The channels used are iPa305 using 52E and iap325 using 149E.

Yes, the 6.5.x and 8.x versions have the clientmatch feature enabled.

Because it is a home environment, the settings and clients are the same except for the firmware version.

That is most likely a display bug in 6.x.  Wireless is a shared medium, so that there are always retries when clients attempt to transmit on the same radio because they are in the same collision domain.  If you have more than one client on a radio, it will  happen.  Fortunately, in your 8.x  deployment where there are retries, your retries as a percentage of packets are low (less than 5%) in the majority of your cases.

I will check to see if there was a display change made between 6.x and 8.x

What was the exact version of Instant in 6.5.x that you upgraded from?

Will these errors affect the experience? When I was using 8.x, some clients would skip frames when playing games. 6.5.x no one said this.

Those are packets that are retried, which is a normal part of wifi.  You can capture packets on your 6.5.x deployment and see what percentage are retries...  It is normal.  Since you are running 80mhz channels, that is 4 channels that you could possibly witness wireless interference and retries.  Your current retry percentage is relatively low.  Retries could definitely increase if your neighbor is using the same channels or there are 5ghz devices that create interference, like some video transmitters.  Either way, 5% retries is very typical.

in addition you can also choose smaller channel width than 80MHz one, like 40MHz channel width and for higher density env, you can use 20MHz.

I am pursuing high throughput and there are not many clients, so I have been using 80MHz. But wait for the new version of 8.x to come out and try 40MHz after upgrading. Thank you

You can upgrade, but If your environment has not changed, the retries should be similar under similar conditions.
