Local users for WIFI authentication to SSID

Hi Everyone,

First time on the community glad to be here.  I have a user that configured all of his WIFI users locally on the AP (IAP315).  Can these local user accounts be used to connect to the WIFI network?  If not, then what is the general purpose for being able to create local users on the APs?  Thanks everyone.

Re: Local users for WIFI authentication to SSID

The local users configured on IAPs can be used for Wireless auth.

you can use dot1x/MAC auth for them.

Re: Local users for WIFI authentication to SSID

Hi,

You create local users for 3 types of authentication

1) Employee or General local user authentication. Format would be username/password

2) Guest user authentication: Format would be username/password

3) Mac authentication. Format would be macaddress/macaddress

Re: Local users for WIFI authentication to SSID

Thank you Ronin, but is that for a client to associate to the access point or to login to administer the WIFI network? If it is for a client to associate how do you apply the functionality after creating the users? So far we have created the users and when they try to associate it just asks for the passphrase, not the username and password.

Thanks

Re: Local users for WIFI authentication to SSID

Dear,

You must create a WPA2-ENTERPRISE (802.1X) ssid to get the username
password prompt.
Although not scalable, you can assign different roles based on different
local usernames to give different privileges to clients.

Its better done and scalable through Clearpass or 3rd party radius server
