I am new to SSL certs. When I am generating my csr file with OpenSSL what name should I use for the common name. This AP is in a location without a server. I have set the AP up with a static IP and have set the domain name to a public domain name I have set aside for this location call it example.com. AP's name is AP1. The public domain name is pointed to the public  IP from Comcast. Back to my original question should I use the FQDN "AP1.example.com" as the common name in generating the csr? Thanks.

Is this for guest access / captive portal or just the management UI?

It doesn't need to be a real hostname. Do something use friendly like
    "network-login.yourdomain.xyz".
