Is there a way to prevent specific access points from becoming a virual controller? The motivation for this is we have several access points in a group that are connected via a wireless bridge and we don't want them to take over or become master in the event of link degredation or failure.

I don't think you can do that exactly. What you can do is set one of the IAPs to be a preferred master, and it will always win the election.

Further to my own comment, if the wireless bridge breaks and half of the APs are separated on their own LAN island (isLANd ? hehe) then they will definitely have an election amongst themselves and you will end up with a split-brain.

The split-brain will be resolved when the connectiviy to the preferred master is restored. The AP that was the island VC will reboot itself when it sees the preferred VC, and it will rejoin the cluster as a regular slave AP.
